Can't update shared deck after renaming (renamed back) – is the link lost permanently?
Hi everyone,
I ran into an issue with updating a shared deck on AnkiWeb and I'm trying to understand if there's any way to fix it.
Here’s what happened:
- I had a shared deck published on AnkiWeb (with downloads and ratings).
- After some time, I renamed the deck locally in Anki.
- Later I renamed it back to the original name (exactly the same).
- Now when I try to "Share" it again, AnkiWeb creates a NEW deck instead of updating the existing one.
So it looks like the connection between my local deck and the original shared deck is broken.
Important details:
- The name now matches the original one exactly.
- I did sync before sharing.
- But the new upload always creates a separate entry with 0 downloads.
My questions:
Is the link between a local deck and a shared deck permanently lost after renaming?
Does Anki use some internal deck ID that changes when renaming/importing?
Is there ANY way to reconnect to the original shared deck and update it (keeping downloads and link)?
Or is the only option to keep the new deck and redirect users manually?
I’d really appreciate any insight, especially from someone who has dealt with updating shared decks long-term.
Thanks!
