Step 2 plateau is driving me crazy! Scores stuck around 250 for months, exam in 17 days. Delay or push through?
My Step 2 exam is in 17 days, and I've been stuck in the same score range for months despite consistent studying.
Scores (chronological order):
- UWSA1 (6 months ago): 248
- NBME 10 (5 months ago): 250
- NBME 11 (4 months ago): 251
- NBME 12 (4 months ago): 245
- NBME 13 (3 months ago): 248
- NBME 14 (2 months ago): 249
- UWSA2 (1.5 months ago): 251
- Old Free 120 (1 month ago): 83%
- NBME 15 (2 days ago): 250
My goal is 260+.
When I review my incorrect questions, most don't seem to come from major knowledge gaps. They are usually due to getting stuck between two answer choices, missing key details in the stem, forgetting information I already know, or making avoidable mistakes under exam conditions.
I'm trying to figure out what this plateau actually means and what I should do next.
For people who were stuck in the 245-252 range and eventually scored 260+:
- Was your plateau caused by hidden knowledge gaps or by test-taking/execution issues?
- How did you identify the real problem?
- Is 17 days enough time to make a meaningful jump, and if so, what was the highest-yield strategy?
- If you were in my position, would you sit for the exam or postpone?
- Did postponing actually help you improve, or did it just prolong the plateau?
I'd really appreciate hearing from people who had a similar score trend and managed to break through it.
