I made this lamp with a piece of a banded iron formation me and my girlfriend found in Montana. It is from the Ruby Range, and was likely formed between 2.0-2.5 billion years.

I stare at it and think about the cyanobacteria begining oxygenation of the seas and oceans on Earth. This likely formed sometime during the Archean/Paleoproterozoic Era.

What a crazy rock we live on. I will provide some links to more information for those who are interested.
