Sooo my girlfriend has been progressing pretty well since the last update. She’s made it to Spear Pillar and battled the Galactica (it’s what she calls them) commanders with Barry and beat them but it got stressful as Barry lead with munchlax who didn’t really do anything other than stockpile and swallow.

Sadly she got beaten by Cyrus in the distortion world so she’s spent most of the last day levelling up her pokemon and finding new TMs for her team.

The first image is her team most recently, but she’s rejigged the team a bit so you can see her previous pokemon on the third image. Going to be honest I’ve been impressed at how well she’s been keeping her Pokemon levelled up pretty evenly and keeping XP distributed and not having one or two to dominate it.

She did admit to using some stuff online to find out some tips and tricks to level up faster. This resulted in her trying to catch a Blissey or Chansey for a lucky egg. She only realised after a while that the chances of that happening are like 1% so gave up on that idea.

She’s going back to old fashioned grinding using the VS seeker for the time being. I’m sure Cyrus will get smashed the next time they meet!

Any tips or advice for her next part of the journey I should tell her?

Sorry for the slow update, she’s been pretty busy and not had as much time to play as she’d like. It wasn’t helped that she did play quite a bit today before the game froze and she lost like 4 hours of progress.

She made it to Pastoria, and had a pretty uneventful time getting there. She went to the gym and had a terrible time. She got lost many times in the gym, including getting to the final platform before Wake, getting confused and going back to get even more lost.

Whilst fighting Wake he sent out Gyarados which intimidated her Pokemon. She said lots of positive encouragement to her pokemon and told them to not be intimidated by the enemy.

Beat Crasher wake

Eevee is now Flareon after using a fire stone from Solaceon Ruins, as she wanted a fire Pokemon. She caught a Scyther on her way to Celestic town which is now in the day care with Gengar.

Surfed around a bit before realising she can now get to Canalave. She’s currently on Iron Island and is annoyed at Riley and his Lucario because they keep dying and not doing much useful.

She loves the Shinx line so much every time one comes up in battle she gets all excited

My girlfriend has made it a bit further on her journey after beating Fantina. She’s made her way to route 215 and is battling her way to Veilstone.

Her team is coming in steadily and has evolved her Gastly to a Haunter which I traded with her so she could evolve it to Gengar. She was very excited to evolve Zubat to Golbat and then to Crobat on consecutive levels especially after I told her that meant it liked her very much.

Grotle evolved to Torterra so she now has 4 fully evolved Pokemon in her team. She loves the Shinx line so so much and hates having to beat anyone that has it in their team.

She hasn’t found any more stones but I don’t think she looked around the Solaceon Ruins as I suggested following some advice from people here. She put her Togepi and Buizel in the day care so hopefully they’ll level up a lot by the time she remembers to get them.

Since the last update there’s not been loads to say really. My gf has levelled up a few of her Pokemon, and has evolved her Luxio to Luxray. She’s hatched the Togepi egg from Cynthia

She has made it to Hearthome City, and has explored a bit. She has the Eevee from Bebe but doesn’t really know what to do with it - I don’t think she’s come across any eeveelutions yet so doesn’t know it can turn into lots of different types.

She liked Amity Square but got annoyed at how confusing the warp tower things are.

What she has done is spend a lot of time in the contest hall doing contests and having a lot of fun dressing up her Pokemon.

She’s also got her poffin case and has been making poffins but finds that boring so got me to do that when she was at work.

Any advice for her next few stages?

I’ll be moving to doing updates every other day for a bit as she’s been quite busy and not had much time to play the past couple of days.

So since the last update she had a go against Gardenia with her Grotle and Luxio (and under levelled Zubat) and got stopped by Roserade.

She went off to grind hard to get her Zubat where it got wing attack. This took her a couple of hours as it kept dying because it was so weak. Everytime it levelled up she’d tell me PeePee has grown and laugh. I wonder what she’ll think of PP Ups.

Anyway she got her Zubat to have wing attack and it was able to take out Gardenia.

After getting the HM Cut she wanted to teach it to Grotle as it was the only one on the team that could learn it. It pained me to see this so I introduced the idea of the HM slave to her. My first playthrough on pearl had a Empoleon with surf, rock smash, rock climb, and strength and I didn’t want that to happen to her Grotle.

I had a look in her bag and found that she had a few picked up items, but more importantly x20 Honey. She said the guy in floaroma was very nice and she felt bad for him and his family run business so bought a lot.

A lot of her pokemon were holding things like potions and I tried to vaguely explain how items work and how different items will do different things in battle, and not all items you use can be used by Pokemon.

Anyway she went back to the old Chateau, caught a Gastly, KOd the rotom, and got a Bidoof from one of the earlier routes.

She’s currently in Mt Coronet getting lost so hopefully she has some escape ropes…

Beginning to think my girlfriend would fit in nicely with Team Galactic: all she wants to do is take other people’s pokemon and not give a hoot about their feelings :-/

After getting lost in the Ravaged Path and Jubilife, she eventually made it out to Floaroma. She got lost again trying to find the Galactic grunts, and after some running around found the right path.

She rescued the scientist guy from Mars and very much enjoyed the little girl calling her Dad stinky and proceeded to call me stinky.

She did not like Cheryl or her Chansey but made it through Eterna forest. She wants to go to the Old Chateau (haunted house) because she wants a ghost pokemon but I said she’ll need to wait until she’s beaten the next gym.

Anyway she’s just made it to Eterna City. She really wants a bike and is disappointed that she can’t take a bike from Rad Rickshaws shop because he’s not there atm. She is currently batting her way through the gym.

No new pokemon has been caught.

Hi guys, my girlfriend’s adventure has continued and good news! She’s got her first gym badge after beating Roark.

After going to going round Jubilife for a bit, she headed off towards Oreburgh. She spent a lot of time on route 203 and getting irritated at the trainers battling her and long grass but made it through. She did catch a Shinx and levelled it up a bit.

When she went to into Oreburgh Gate she called the first hiker guy a creep and weirdo for talking to her, then he gave her the HM for rock smash and she was immediately happy that he did that.

After getting to Oreburgh she immediately went running off exploring and eventually spoke to Barry at the gym to find out what to do next. She went to the mine and spent a good 10 minutes trying to find the entrance. She eventually went inside and then spent a while working out how to get to the main mining area.

The pain continued, as she struggled with finding Roark in Oreburgh Mine, then got ‘lost’ in there. She was able to use the escape rope to get out after speaking to him. Whilst in there she learnt that her Turtwig was very good vs the rock types with razor leaf and absorb.

She went off to the gym and battled through the two trainers in there, before losing to Roark’s Cranidos. After stocking up on potions she went back and this time she pretty much one shot all his pokemon and comfortably win.

She’s gone back to Jubilife, catching a Zubat on the way, and will continue later on this evening.

Any advice or tips for her for her next part of the journey?

Hi guys, this is a follow up to my post a couple of days ago about documenting my girlfriend’s first ever pokemon play through. Edit: here’s the link to the original post.

She picked Turtwig as her starter because he has a nice little twig hat. She hasn’t caught any other pokemon yet.

So far she’s made it to the trainer school at Jubilife City so slow and steady progress so far.

She hates Starlies with a passion already, and hates tall grass!

Any advice for her going forward?

My girlfriend is starting her first ever game of pokemon! She knows almost nothing about the game, let alone mechanics - just that Pokémon fight and some are "better" than others.

I've played the gen 4+5 games for years, but she wants to have her own experience. If it’s allowed on the sub, I want to post regular (hopefully daily) updates of her adventure and what she’s done, caught, battled etc.

As I don’t want to spoon-feed all the tips and tricks I learnt, I was thinking maybe give her the most upvoted helpful comment (not turn your empoleon into a HM slave or use your Masterball on a Floatzel) to help her with her progress.

That being said, what would your best piece of advice for a completely new player be for their Platinum playthrough?
