Why Do Some Stores Not Perform Pupillary Distance Measurements Anymore?

For a little context, I don't always purchase glasses when I get my prescription because usually their frame selection doesn't have anything that fits my head and eyes. So I shop around other offices for glasses.

Two years ago I purchased some sunglasses and during the purchase process I asked if they had to do the sharpie method or use a tool to measure PD. The lady helping me said, "don't worry, I took care of it." So I just accepted it and they seem okay enough, but definitely different than my last pair.

Recently, I was shopping for new frames and when purchasing, the same thing happened but at a different place. This time I clearly saw their PD measuring binocular type thing on the table and asked the person helping me if they need to measure, and he said "don't worry, I already saw how the frames sit on your face."

I can't really seem to find any answers online as to why they didn't measure mine. Am I supposed to trust their judgements or do I need to insist on getting it measured for accuracy? I'm rocking my first new eyeglass prescription in 4 years so that has been more of an adjustment than figuring out the consequences of having poor PD alignment.

TL;DR

Two separate places I purchased glasses from said they don't need to take my PD measurement, it isn't included on my prescription. Is this normal or do I need to insist on requesting a measurement?
