How long until I can expect hand feeding?
My Cockateil, Luffy, is about 5-months old and I’ve gotten him nearly a week ago. I have been getting him comfortable with my hand both outside and inside the cage. Outside if I approach the cage very carefully he is calm and alright with it, however when I put my hand in although is getting SLIGHTLY less nervous he still freaks out a bit and tries to move away. I am planning today to start putting fruits and treats (millet) through the cage to get him more comfortable, but how long should I expect until my cockatiel is comfortable enough to start eating from my hand and eventually being fully safe with it?
(P.S This picture was taken a few days ago and it is more calmer and comfortable than what he looks like in the picture. Today Im going to put toys inside and planning to get a bigger cage next week as well as get a natural perch but Im just worred that if I do all this it will freak out and start lose his trust with me)
