True magnetic switch upgrade idea
Is there anybody out there that can help manufacture, engineer, or use a commercially available magnetic switch?
I did do the dielectric grease hack. Still, my 800 lid switch has begun sticking after the third use, one of which was a 700 deg cook to sear steaks.
It sticks closed, so the grill works, but it crates a problem when leaving the lid open to manipulate burgers, chicken, etc. I realize I can hit the pause button to turn off the fan. Im looking for a real solution to the switch problem.
I’m looking for a replacement switch that employs a true sealed magnetic switch. The kind that has the magnet fully sealed in the switch. Close the lid and the magnet in the switch moves up and closes the switch. Open the lid and the magnet falls opening the switch.
Switches of this type do exist and are available at places like McMaster-Carr. I have not dug through the catalog to find one the right size, if one exists. My guess is a switch exists, but an adapter body to fit the Gravity switch hole will need to be 3D printed out of some specific heat resistant filament.
Before I head down the rabbit hole of switch research, 3D CAD design, filament research, then printing, I wanted to toss this out there to see if any professional engineer/amateur BBQists had already ginned something like this up.
