Do uni students still get hyped for gadgets as prizes?

Hey everyone, I’m helping organize a math competition (like a Math Olympiad or regular math) at a learning centre, my boss said "You sure or not uni students still want gadgets?", honestly, I’m not so sure either.

Would uni students still be excited about prizes like smartwatches or wireless earphones? Or do you all prefer vouchers, cash or something else these days?

Basically, what kind of prize would actually make you think: “Okay fine, I’ll do math for this.”

Curious to hear your thoughts, come help me prove my boss wrong (or right)!!!

Do Singapore companies join career fairs in the UK/US?

I’m curious about something and thought I’d ask here to get real experiences.

  • Do Singapore companies actually show up at career fairs in the UK or US?
  • If yes, which ones normally join (banks, consulting firms, tech companies, etc.)?
  • Is it very difficult to enroll or attend these fairs as an international company?

I’m looking to connect with international students (Malaysian, Chinese, Singaporean or others) who are studying in the UK/US and might be interested in working in Singapore after graduation. I’ve heard of events like Jobs Market Fair in University College London (UCL) or in University of California, Berkeley (UCB), but I don’t have a clear picture of how common these opportunities are.

👉 Would love to hear your experiences, have you attended one of these fairs? Did you see Singapore employers there?

Thanks in advance, and hopefully this thread can help others who are also exploring career options in Singapore!

Personally, I’ve noticed that hiring for Math Teacher roles in Singapore can be surprisingly challenging, even though math is always a high-demand subject and tuition/education remains a strong industry here.

Curious to hear different perspectives:

  • Is it mainly due to salary expectations vs workload?
  • Perception that teaching = high stress / long hours?
  • Preference for finance, tech, data, or engineering roles instead, especially for math graduates?

For those with strong math backgrounds, what would make a Math Teacher role more attractive to you in Singapore?

Would love to hear honest opinions from students, fresh grads, teachers, or career switchers.
