Mid DIY Build; making progress no
We had a small/medium multi level deck built in the 90s? That was in pretty sad shape, so I’m finally rebuilding it as a slightly bigger single level deck. Things I know will be critiqued; hanging joist hangers first, using an edge and not leaving it long and cutting the boards with a track saw. Framing is triple 2x12 beams (first recessed so we have more head room underneath for storage), bonus beam (triple 2x10) for future hot tub on top of the two footings near house. 4’ deep sonotubes with fiber in the concrete for extra strength. Simpson screws for all hangers, 3.5” simpson framing screws for all blocking and other connections, 4.5” toplok screws for locking beams together. 5” lags every foot into house for ledger, and the 4x4 on ends is lagged into house too through ledger with 8” lags. Joists taped. Decking is timbertech vintage series with concealoc for most and cortex+plugs for edges and stairs, railings will be classic composite setup with drunk rail on top. Still need to add sway-bracing, frame stairs, etc. Really trying to build it to last forever and be strong; how are we doing? Can I put 2 or 3 hot tubs on it?
