Old sword hilt found at a cheap store was curious to age and possible nationality Australia NSW

Found this sword hilt at a old furniture store for $20
As I know nothing about old sword I thought maybe someone on here might know more.

It appears to have spent some time submerged in the ocean

Picked up this old chair off marketplace for free as someone was going to burn it if it wasn’t taken

Apparently his father picked it up at auction around 1990 not sure if it’s worth restoring fully or putting a lot of time / money into it as I truly don’t really know much about it other then that it sits very low to the ground and that its quite long about 7 to 8 feet long

Was curious to see weather someone else might have a better idea on purpose / age
