Shanghai airport

Hey guys,

I’m really conflicted between choosing Air China and China Eastern. I have a 13-hour-and-45-minute layover in China, and I’ve heard a lot of bad things about Shanghai Airport being quite strict, especially when it comes to carry-on baggage. I’m prepared for that and honestly expect it.

What I’m more concerned about is the immigration process and getting out of the airport, as I’ve heard the procedures can be quite messy and time-consuming. I’m also wondering about the process of checking in again, especially since Shanghai Airport is quite large and it can take some time to find the correct terminal and check-in area.

I’m well prepared for this, though. My plan is to leave the airport during the layover and return around 3 hours before my flight, which I feel should give me enough time to find the correct terminal/check-in area and get through everything without rushing.

For anyone who has travelled through Shanghai Airport before, do you think 3 hours is enough time to allow for all of this?

Or am I overthinking to much

p.s: without delays or anything I arrive at 7:00am in the morning (1h buffer to get out if i rush to get out e.g: run
