Why Are You guys obsessed with IB?

I am an incoming Finance Major and I've been wondering why people majoring in finance always hype up IB or PE like it's the only thing and the best thing to do as a finance major. Yeah it's one of the highest paying jobs out there but hours are terrible, workload is a lot, it's not really morally fulfilling in most cases, and IB overall is really hard to break into if you're not from a target or T25 from what I've read.

Corporate Finance or Consulting pays less sure, but it seems to have better benefits and better work life balance than slaving in excel spreadsheets from 8am-2am the next day right out of college. I will definitely try to get into IB, but if I land some other role post grad but still in finance and paying good, I don't see a problem and really don't understand the stigma against other finance roles.
