Understanding the future of ASCs and surgery in PP

With decreasing reimbursement and increasing overhead especially for surgical centers, what is the future of physician owned surgery centers? Will they still be profitable in 10 years?

Becoming VHNW or UHNW in medicine?

"Don't become a doctor for the money" is something I have heard so many times throughout this process. I agree in that was my only reason I would be miserable. I love the job. However I would be lying if I said it wasn't a important factor in my choice.

I (26) am in ortho residency and am currently financially planning my families life and economic goals.

So the question is, can doctors become VHNW (5-30mil) or even UHNW (30+ mil) individuals? Is it through private practice? Patents? Consulting? What do these doctors typically do to make it here? I understand that living below your means, saving, and investing, especially on a doctors salary can get one to 5-10 million but I was wondering more about the 10-15mil + people. Assume no debt.

This is more of a question of curiosity the extremes/possibilities for doctors rather than a super serious one. I love what I do and would do it even if it meant being paid much less but would definitely prefer to be paid more/be wealthier (who doesn't).

Out earning a surgeon

I am a orthopedic surgical resident looking to go into spine for fellowship. Median pay (marit) is 922k a year. Will be 31 when I am an attending. People in my area (small-medium metro) who are in private practice hint to me that they are making well above 1.5m

Recently my best friend who works in tech had a liquidity event happen at his startup. He told me he walked away with something along the lines of 1.75 million dollars. Another one of my friends works in PE and talks about his 300k base. Ik PE compensation is largely based on carry and he could be pulling in much more.

I was just wondering, what professions (in terms of lifetime earnings and nw) are more lucrative than a surgeon. Have any of you had experiences in these fields? It doesn't matter to me much but would be cool to know.
