Agency owners, do you actually check your carrier commission statements, or just trust the deposit?
Curious how the room handles this. When commission statements come in from carriers, do you reconcile them line by line against your book, or mostly just confirm the deposit landed and move on?
I keep wondering how many agencies are getting quietly underpaid — wrong rate on a renewal, a policy that never got paid out, a chargeback that shouldn't have hit — and just never catch it because checking by hand is brutal.
Is this something you actively watch, or one of those "I should but who has time" things? Genuinely trying to understand how different shops deal with it.
