*)Muscle pains and cramps

I am a liver transplant "survivor " of nine years. Muscle problems acutely after surgery are probably secondary to the massive physiological stress of your surgery. However, later on anti rejection drugs have many effects on muscle and tendons. With everolimus I had multiple aches and pains; especially where tendons inserted on bone. Tacrolimus and everolimus both worsened muscle cramping. With tacrolimus, low magnesium worsens cramps. Magnesium deficiency is hard to show on routine lab tasting as only a small percentage is present in extracellular fluid. That is why you take, or should take Mg when on tacrolimus. A recent study showed that Vitamin K2 at a daily dose of 180 mcg reduced intensity and number of nocturnal cramps. Severe cramps have plagued me since transplant and K2 has helped reduce cramping; not eliminate them.
