Gearbox casing bearing replacement

Hey team, trust everyone has had a good week! Just wondering if I can get some input on replacing the casing bearings in the gearbox of our 2018 Toyota Highlander AWD? I understand the gearbox has to be removed and disassembled and have been quoted $6,600 inc gst for the job. If I am being honest I am not mechanically astute so have no idea. Long story short, car started making a faint whistling noise while driving between 40-50kmh and I took it to Toyota so they can diagnose and took them for a test drive etc.

They came back saying it’s the gearbox and that these models are known for these issues. Upon further research the models between 2017-2019 had a factory assembly issue with the bearings which resulted in alot of faults even lawsuits etc. All that aside as I will try get Toyota to front the bill as the car has only done 90k (from my view the car is barely broken in as we have owned nothing but Toyota all out lives and now this issue has arisen on this vehicle and I feel it’s total rubbish) and barely driven 10k per year since we got it, is $6,600 fair for the work? This is from a reputable independent gearbox specialist. Toyota quoted $16k to replace gearbox.

Any input is appreciated
