Hi all! I’m planning on a 4 day route from Green River Lakes to Elkhart Part via Elbow Lake and Seneca Lake. Is it safe to camp at elevation near Elbow Lake during late July? Any suggestions on better sites to camp between Peak Lake and Upper Jean Lake? I am a semi-seasoned backpacker and know that weather can change in an instant, though I’m not familiar with the Wind River. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
I’m planning to backpack the Wind River range in mid July, going from the Green River Lakes to Elkhart Park (avoiding Knapsack Col and instead taking the route past Elbow Lake). We plan to camp at Three Forks Park on night 1. Does anyone have recommendations for campsites for the second and third nights? I hear Elbow Lake and Upper Jean lake can be very exposed to weather, but would be the ideal mileage point for our route. I was thinking we would camp at Seneca lake on night 3, but can’t seem to find much info online about campsites there. Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
