Car Rental Worth It (Oahu 4 days)

We are a group of 4 adults who will be spending 9 nights in Hawaii in August, flying in and out of Honolulu. We are thinking of spending 4 nights in Waikiki before going to the Big Island for 5 nights. We've been to Oahu, Big Island, and Maui on previous trips. Our previous Oahu trip was spent at Turtle Bay (North Shore), so this time we want to stay more central to do some of the things we missed last time - Pearl Harbor, Bishops Museum, Iolani Palace. We also want to take a day to drive up to the North Shore, stopping at an east side beach on the way back in the afternoon for an hour or two of beach time.

Is renting a car for the 4 days on Oahu the way to go? I'm not concerned about the cost of parking. We really would only need the car for the North Shore day, but I'm thinking it might make the Pearl Harbor day easier as well ... at which point I think picking a car up at the airport might just easiest. Thoughts?
