Consumer proposal and an existing mortgage

I unfortunately find myself in a situation where I have to file a consumer proposal. It’s a long story, but that’s for another time.

I know that CP doesn’t affect your current mortgage. But I read online that If you owe unsecured debt to the same bank that holds your mortgage while filing a consumer proposal, there might be a major risks regarding any future mortgage renewal.

Has anyone gone through a similar case and if yes, what was the outcome?

Thank you in advance! ❤️

Consumer Proposal

I unfortunately find myself in a situation where I have to file a consumer proposal. It’s a long story, but that’s for another time.

I have narrowed down my options to two insolvency trustee firms: Hoyes, Michalos & Associates and Spergel.

I was wondering if anyone here has gone through a consumer proposal with either firm and what your experience was like?

One of my biggest fear is what happens if the proposal gets denied. Have you experienced any pushback from your creditors or had them come back with a counter-offer? If so, how did the process work?

I am also wondering about the age of the debt. Some of mine is around three years old, but some is as recent as two months. I am worried that creditors might reject the proposal because some of the debt is relatively new.

If you have been through the process with either Hoyes or Spergel, I would really appreciate hearing about your experience, good or bad. I’m especially interested in how supportive they were, how they handled creditor negotiations, and whether there were any surprises along the way.

Thank you in advance! ❤️
