Trying to find out my moms autoimmune disease she seemingly passed to me.
I have always had a sensitive stomach. From infancy I had difficulty with formulas made from whey and soy eventually they stopped trying as I had aged out. My mother noticed through my childhood issues with dairy specifically but some other food product unspecifically. I would constantly complain of stomach aches.
One clear memory for me was eating my birthday cake one year and immediately sitting on the ground clutching my stomach in pain. It's clear because my aunt said "You knew this would happen why did you choose to eat it."
I had asthma and chronic congestion as a child as well. My lungs had been damaged by multiple croup infections. I had ear infections often.
After COVID my symptoms got worse.
I noticed when eating mainly anything i would expirence terrible brain fog and worsening asthma. My doctor put me on a daily inhaler which made me feel worse.
Queue me having enough and slowly sorting out which foods made me feel awful. Still wasn't able to figure it out. Until one day i drank a sip of soy protein isolate, immediately I'm on the ground clutching my head feeling as if my entire body is on fire. Massive migrane the next few days I sleep for 12 hours at a time. My mind in a daze, constant brain fog and panic attacks.
Soy. It had been soy. Cut it out of my diet and I felt better, for about a year. Suddenly i can't drink even lactose free milk without my tongue and throat burning. I figure okay some cows are fed soy. Pivot and go full grass fed for everything. Still feel awful, my options of food have severely limited. I'm currently in a flare up and I'm noticing pea protein isn't even safe. I avoid eating unprocessed corn and don't actively eat beans because it gives me cramps. So I am severely limited in food choices.
I'm 24, I want to be able to eat out. Enjoy going to friends houses. Without having to bring my own food or worry if I'm going to have a flare up.
I've explained my issues to my doctor she said to avoid the foods. I brought it up to a gastrointestinal doctor she said I should try low fodmap. I have, I want an altenative solution.
My grandfather had crohns disease, my father had hyperthyroidism. My mother, undiagnosed. The doctor said it would take hundreds of thousands of dollars to test for all the possiblities.
She can't eat certain foods without brain fog, chronic fatigue, she "doesn't get sick" but when she does she completly crashes. She doesn't have pain in her stomach due to having no feeling there since her nerves in that region were damaged.
My symptoms are increasing allergies, periods of flares regardless of diet, brain fog and anxiety. I have vertigo more often with the flares. I also have a full feeling in my head during flares. Eczema that does not respond to eczema friendly products. Rashes that look like localized hives. During flares my skin aches, my lower abdomen has a pain that spreads down to my legs and upper abdomen.
I am not asking for a diagnosis, simply a lead that I could pursue.
