iiitn college review for those who need it
TLDR: will suggest this college if u are taking the branch u love, willing to study from youtube, getting college hostel / willing to live in a flat in future, are aware of your branch cariculum and current placement stats of the college, dont wanna be the main character from a college life wali movie
about me to understand my perspective better: i took this college cause of placement stats (jo ki ye saal gir gaye/jayenge) + location + fees. NOTHING ELSE. i lived in dia hostel for the entire first year. im a guy.
infra: pretty decent, its recently built so everything is fine as per my standards. summers mai afternoon mai accha nhi lagta but mornings and evenings feel beautiful. college ko dekhkar esa nhi lagta ki ye kaha agaya mai. all classes have ACs, har floor par washroom + water cooler hai (though water coolers are not working the higher the floor u go). small canteen in acadmic building so bheed hojati hai at times and u wont even have place to sit, uss area mai AC bhi nhi hai but cooler hai during summers. reading room (study room) and library is really tiny, sometimes jagha vaha bhi nhi hoti bethne ko. btw library has mostly academic books only.
clubs: tbh mujhe to bakchodi lagi, maybe because my expectations from what college clubs are was different. idk why but each club has alot of random people with random roles assigned to them. like u cant be just a normal member who does nothing but only attends the club meetings and events because u are interested in what the club is about. there is internal politics going on in clubs cause of chances of corruption and making profits. as someone who didnt live in college hostel, a club for me was basically just a whatsapp group where i saw other people of similar interest do stuff. some clubs dont select members for technical roles (web dev, etc) from day scholars (including dia hostel students).
events: there are 2 major events, one is cultural and one is technical. once again if u are from dia hostel, main program khatam hote hi bus mai bethkar wapis chale jao apne cell mai. honestly i went to events only for food stalls, but they were overpriced aswell, but my friends who were actually interested did have fun, especially in the DJ nights and standup.
curriculum & acadmics : apni apni branch ka dekh lo website par, also check the number of labs. its kinda weird here, theory lectures waale kuch teachers kuch coding voding nhi dikhayenge. mera pura web dev wala course khatam hogaya and the teacher didnt even open vs code in front of us. lab wale teachers (agar acche hoto) will teach u stuff but there is no sync between lab and theory lectures, dono kinda independently padhate hai (again depends on the teacher). Teachers are phd/research students jinko bola gaya hai ki hame padhaye with help of some PPTs. idc if the teacher is passionate or not but some of them dont teach shit and strictness esi rakhte hai jese sachmai koi actual teacher ho. I dont have problem with teachers who actually teach, and expect me to be learning in class. yes u will have the physics, chemistry subjects with different names given to them (view curriculum please). also u will mostly need to study from youtube / external resources, dont expect stuff from college, most of the classes bus PPTs chalegi.
exams: this year there was midsem of 30 marks and endsem of 100 marks which then gets converted into 50 marks. rest 20 marks for attendance + quiz maybe + teacher ke najro mai aap kese ho. so thats overall 100 marks. for courses with labs.. these out of 100 marks get converted into out of 75, and rest 25 is from lab exams and lab waale teacher. Exam keliye 1 week pehele padh sakte ho, kuch exams ek raat mai bhi nikal sakte ho, i would suggest ki 1st sem ke midsem keliye acche se prepare karlo fir u will realize ki kisko kitna time dena chahiye tha. end sem mai sab kichdi hojati hai.. like 20-30% of syllabus was taught in 2 months and baki 40% in 1 month and baki 40% in last 1 week.. for example html css was taught for 2 months, javascript for 2-3 weeks. php + mysql in 3 lectures. vhi hogaya ki unit dimensions 1 mahina aur rotational motion 1 week.
gender ratio & opposite gender interaction : batch of 2029 has less than 30 girls and around 600 boys. SIH like events require a female member in team and it might be hard to "select" one, cause of few options. u will usually talk to each other only because u both have roll numbers nearby so in same team for some lab or u are cheating in exam hall (or maybe im too introverted / scared). if u came with expectations of the college relationships u see in the movies/media, then well u can guess, its not happening.
sports : basketball court hai, badminton court hai, ground bhi ban gaya. but i really dont know if any of it is functioning well cause once again.. dia hostel ka hu never got chance / tried to play there kyuki last bus 6 baje nikal jati thi + used to be tired after classes.
students & peer group: depends on the friends u make, but there are students who are really good at stuff they do, u will notice them eventually. there is competitive environment withing your class / branch / batch (again depends on your classmates, like half or more students in electronics branch join with no interest in electronics and will complain to u about it, also branch change is discontinued now, there is no reason for u to take a branch u are not interested in)
management/admin : recent protest ke baare mai jaan lo, kyu hua tha aur kya uska result raha.
10: location: college is in middle of no where, no shops / food stalls nearby college. main highway is 10rs away from college gate, butibori from mainhighway is more 10rs away but there isnt much to do in butibori, u can do there to eat stuff and come back. sitabardi, nagpur from main highway is 50rs away. from there u can explore the entire nagpur city. nagpur city buses / metro is decent enough, saste mai ghum sakte ho.
