Question on Approaching Answers

When answering a question, is using process of elimination OK, or should we arrive at the answer the long way? Example, for a redox reaction, you can get the right answer but just see which sides have atoms and charges balanced, although in the explanation they explain the full redox process.
Is this okay?
Thanks
