To clarify, I am not saying these characters are universally or even majorly hated, just when I ask for opinions, I often hear mixed ones on them. While I can definitely get some like Juvia for her behavior or Brandish for fanservice, but I will also do my best to stay neutral. And Natsu AND Erza are both included.

Feel free to skip any and be completely honest. It can be because of writing or something simple as you don’t like their outfit. This is judgement free and I’m curious to hear why!

Here are some of mine

- Acnologia’s human form should’ve been a Team Natsu battle like Hades. I get the dragon slayer thing but it’s just weird how the twin dragons played a bigger role than our mcs and there’s been worse plot armor anyway. Fairy sphere can then be cast by someone like Laxus, which would come full circle from his Fairy Law moment.

- Lisanna is an incredibly shippable character. She has a lot of good traits that Lucy and Juvia have, but without the anxiety and traumatic past. She’s more grounded but also won’t fold over like Juvia, and can be assertive when needed. With development, she could’ve been a great match for Gray.

- I also really like Natsu and Lucy’s S1 designs. While I like Natsu’s full coat and Lucy’s Alvarez design, something about Natsu’s leaner build just feels more him. Same with Lucy’s original proportions.

What are yours? This is judgement free so feel free to share anything. Good, bad or even if it’s how Happy should’ve been the mc and permanently switched bodies with Erza. All opinions welcome and I look forward to some unique ones 😊

I’m going to kind of cheat on this one since really I don’t have a clear favorite so I’ll just list a few.

Natsu, Jellal and Laxus are all candidates for my favorite guy as Natsu is a goofball but also underrated when you don’t ask him to be something he’s not. Laxus and Jellal are very Batman coded so that’s cool. And I like Jellal’s strategic approach and Laxus has the best redemption arc to me.

For girls I’d say it’s a toss up between Wendy, Lucy and Juvia depending on the day. Wendy’s growth is amazing, Lucy as character is very thought out and unique (I also love how Cherami/Aya portray different sides of her) and Juvia is really sweet and likable (usually)

For villains I’d go with Hades, Zeref and Irene. Hades is just that guy, Zeref’s development is amazing and Irene’s aura is different, the first time a female villain had final boss vibes and I really liked her being Wendy’s mentor.

Those are mine, and just my opinion so feel free to share yours. If you can’t decide like me, feel free to share a list as well. No need to overly explain, so if you like brandish for her melons, that’s cool too. I’m looking forward to some unique ones!

For me I personally don’t really have anything against most characters, and I’m also going to preface by saying if you like these, that’s completely fine and I respect your opinion. But that being said.

💧 Aquarius - Terrible, toxic, abusive character who gets a free pass because Lucy likes her. She’s everything people don’t like about Carla but 10x worse. Layla would hate that.

👿 Minerva - Another Lucy Stockholm syndrome victim. Terrible redemption arc, got off with a slap on the wrist. Should’ve tasted benizakura. I’m also going to add Dimaria and flare here. Flare the least, but she’s just weird.

🤢 Gildarts - He’s strong… that’s it never needed to earn or prove it. Pointless character and terrible dad. August exposed him hard. Gramps is strong too, but he doesn’t give off this vibe does he?

And then there’s Edolas/Fairy Nail… just shoot them into the sun 😬

So who does it for you? This is a judgement free zone so don’t be afraid to share even if it’s a character that is well loved. I’m looking forward to some unique ones!

When I make my posts asking for opinions, these are often two of the most brought up topics and while I’ll give my opinion, I’ll try to remain neutral so don’t feel afraid to share yours.

I’ll start with power of friendship/nakama because I really don’t think it’s an issue. FT is all about found family so it makes sense how that would be a source of resolve. It’s not uncommon in the genre and some fights it is done well such as how Lucy or Wendy get back up out of sheer willpower, showing their growth. The only issue is when it leads to lazy/rushed writing like Natsu vs Zeref or the Twin Dragons.

Fake outs are definitely more controversial for me as I think if used right, they can improve the story. The problem is you have arcs like Alvarez where it’s just the same reused trope over and over again and it feels like Mashima was no longer interested in developing storylines and just went with the default option. And then you have some that don’t make sense at all.

Either way, these are just my opinions so feel free to share yours. At the end of the day if you like FT how it is then that’s fine too.

I’ll start with what I like because I feel while FT has many valid criticisms, it does way more good than bad.

- The main cast is well written. Natsu is an incredible protagonist who embodies the found family theme of fairy tail and shonen well and Lucy has great chemistry to complement that as a co lead. You have erza being a great leader and shonen female role model. Gray bringing grounding and Wendy making sure things don’t get too serious.

- Wendy, Laxus and Zeref are some of the best written and developed characters I’ve ever seen. All unique arcs and they’re so well done you realize they’re also characters like Ultear in the background.

- A small thing but I really like the variety in hair color. Almost every character stands out from that alone and even normal colors like Gray’s black or Lucy’s blonde feel unique.

What I don’t like

- The biggest issue is the tendency for Mashima to either drag arcs or realize he did and default back to reusing the same tropes over and over to get by. The second half of Alvarez is the perfect example.

- YQ slightly fixies this, by the second half or FT flanderizes characters/pairings too much. There’s a clear difference between how characters are in OG FT and later on. Natsu is a great example and Lucy’s focus changes from what made her stand out.

- If I had to sum it up I’d say Mashima is very good at making things look good, but the deeper writing is sometimes rushed or skips over things. Things like Natsu vs Zeref or the way ships are pushed are a good examples of this.

Either way, these are just my opinions so feel free to share yours. It can be on anything whether it be writing, creative decisions, character designs or even why it’s a tragedy Elfman is not the mc.

No need to overly justify anything, but I would love to hear reasonings as well. All opinions welcome.

💡 My reasonings

Lucy - I love her personality because of how complex it is and she’s my waifu. I also really like Cherami and Aya’s VA as they both capture unique sides of hers. Don’t get me wrong Erza is a queen too

Natsu - He’s just too likable. Gray is cool especially when you look into him since he’s often the quiet one but Natsu is one of my favorite protagonists ever.

Jellal - Very close as both him and Laxus are superhero coded. But Jellal being the leader of CS gives him the edge for me.

Wendy - Closest by far, and it honestly changes day to day because of how much I like Juvia’s vibrancy but Wendy is a national treasure.

Zeref - Acno is cool, but Zeref is arguably the best written character in the series.

Yukino - I love her personality and her chemistry with Lucy. She’s my flair after all lol

Levy - She’s very underrated in my opinion. While Cana did grow on me, Levy is a lot like Lucy but less on edge and I feel we’d be great friends.

Who’d be the FT character you think you’d get along with best? There are so many unique characters in the show that you’re bound to find a friend somewhere.

For me I’d say Levy, because she’s kind, friendly and upbeat. She has a lot of similarities with Lucy so if she’s your waifu like me, you’d probably get along with Levy very well.

Also obviously Natsu and Happy being the menaces they are would be perfect and there will definitely be many moments running away from Lucy/Erza.

I’m sure many will like characters like Cana, Mira, Lisanna or even more serious characters like Erza or Lily, so feel free to get creative!

What’s the FT opinion/take you’ll defend till the very end?

Here are some of mine

- Star Dress is arguably the best writing decision Mashima made as it completely fixed one of Lucy’s biggest flaws

- Kicking out Gajeel and having Natsu solo the twin dragons is arguably the worst one as it undermines Sabertooth and ruins what could’ve been a great UR be UR finish.

- Wendy is the best written character all things considered.

- Jellal and Erza have the most potential and are arguably the most compatible for a healthy relationship along with Gajeel and Levy. People will bring up their past and I’m not excusing it, but if we’re taking in the now their relationships are by far the most mutually healthy and fulfilling.

- That being said I really don’t see the point in Jellal joining FT, he works better as the leader of CS which I also believe other than Sorano, nobody should’ve ever left.

In a world of aura farmers who does it best? These are some of my favorites but I have quite a few so if I had to narrow it down.

Erza - Probably my favorite. She just gives it off without trying.

Acnologia - No explanation needed

Selene - Queen energy

Seis - The way they dismantled the Fiore Alliance was just different

August - He was so clear it wasn’t even close. Doesn’t brag, just states. Out aura farmed gildarts without trying.

Laxus - Remined Jellal whose city he’s in. Very Batman coded.

For me it definitely goes Erza, Hisui and then Lucy/Juvia tied for third with an HM to Yukino. For guys I’d say it goes Gray, Laxus, Jellal with an HM to Natsu when he’s drawn serious.

Either way it’s just for fun so share whoever always caught your eye. Bonus points if it’s a less common one.

For me the number one thing definitely has to be the guild splitting up after Tartaros. I have no idea why they’d all just abandon each other like that let alone not keep in touch. A bunch of weird just random things happen. There’s so many plot holes and out of character behavior it just doesn’t make sense

- Why in a show about adventure we really don’t get many wildness settings like the seis or tenrou arcs.

- How Laxus didn’t just instantly destroy Natsu and Gajeel

- Why edolas exists since it really did nothing in the grand scheme of things
