Hey everyone,

I’m in a bit of a unique spot and need some clarity regarding my future MBA plans and Background Verification (BGV).

The Backstory: A few years ago, I joined a regular engineering college for B.Tech. However, halfway through, I realized it wasn't for me and decided to drop out. Simultaneously, I was enrolled in the IIT Madras BS (Data Science/Applications) degree, which I have now successfully completed.

The Goal: I am now preparing for CAT/GMAT to get into IIMs or Top Global B-Schools like Stanford/Harvard.

The Concern: I am worried about the BGV process during MBA admissions or final placements.

  1. If I don’t mention the first engineering college in my resume (since I didn't get a degree), can companies still find out?
  2. Does dropping out of one college while finishing a degree from IITM count as a "red flag"?
  3. How do top-tier companies (MBB/Investment Banks) look at such "pivots" during their verification?

Has anyone here been in a similar situation or works in HR/Verification? Would love some insights.
