How do you make consented recording feel less awkward in client conversations?
I’ve had a few client conversations lately where recording would have been useful because details matter later.
I always ask first. That part is clear.
The awkward part is the room after that. If I put my phone on the table or pull out a recorder, the whole conversation gets a little stiffer. People start choosing their words more carefully, and I catch myself acting like I’m “recording a meeting” instead of just having a normal conversation.
For people who record client calls or in-person sessions with permission, how do you make it feel less formal? Do you mention it once and move on, use a small device, take handwritten notes too, or just accept that the vibe changes a bit?
