Asking for her hand: Kurmanji Bakuri guy marrying a Sorani Slemani girl tips on cultural expectations and traditions?

I’m a Kurd from Bakur North Kurdistan planning to officially ask for my girlfriend’s hand in marriage soon She is a Sorani Kurd from Slemani.
Her parents already know me, but they seem a bit hesitant and haven't fully decided whether they are ready to say yes yet.
Since there can be subtle cultural, regional, and dialectal differences, I want to make sure I approach this with maximum respect and handle everything properly according to her family's expectations.
For those familiar with Slemani culture or mixed Kurmanji Sorani marriages:
What specific cultural differences or expectations should I be aware of?
What do families from Slemani value or pay attention to the most during the process and general wedding talks?
Any tips on how I can leave a strong, positive impression on her parents to help win them over?
I'd really appreciate any advice or insights from your experiences!

What actually happened during the loss of Kirkuk in October 2017? Looking for a clear breakdown.

Hey everyone,
I’ve been trying to get a clearer, more objective picture of what went down in October 2017 after the independence referendum, specifically regarding the loss of Kirkuk.
Every time this topic comes up, people usually jump straight to the PUK sold out Kirkuk and withdrew But I’m trying to understand the actual operational and military reality of those two days (Oct 15–16).
Did specific PUK Peshmerga units actually just abandon their posts in the south, or was there an organized command to fall back to prevent complete destruction? And once those southern lines broke, what was the KDP’s situation? Were they forced to pull back from their positions
like Dibis and K1 because holding them was militarily impossible without getting encircled, or was it a tactical decision from their side as well?
Also, how much did the sheer force imbalance play into it? The PMF and CTS had heavy armor like M1 Abrams and artillery, while Peshmerga units were mostly working with light to medium gear and zero air support from the coalition. Add in the political pressure from Soleimani in Sulaymaniyah and the US staying silent, and it feels like the collapse was almost inevitable or was a defense actually doable?

Why are Kurdish parties in Rojhelat historically weaker and less successful compared to other Parts of Kurdistan?

is truly heartbreaking and frustrating to see Kurds getting killed nearly every day in Iran, and frustrating to watch Rojhelat parties continuously targeted and bombed. Looking at the broader Kurdish struggle, other regions have managed to secure different forms of leverage or impact for instance, the hard fought institutional gains and semi autonomy achieved in Bashur
Yet, when it comes to Rojhelat despite a massive, proud Kurdish population and a history of strong rebellions especially Qazi Muhammad the parties there have never been able to achieve the same level of territorial success, sustained military leverage or autonomy.
On the other hand, looking at groups like the PKK, even if they achieved nothing lasting politically in the end, they still had a massive impact on society in the 80s and 90s and managed to heavily shake and damage the Turkish state.
What is the core problem here? Why does Iran's security grip remain so unbreakable in the region, and why are the Rojhelat political and military parties so small, fragmented, and seemingly unable to break through compared to what Bashur was able to build?

As Kurds, what are your experiences with Arabs? Why is there so much anti Kurdish hatred among some Sunni Arabs?

Hey everyone,
I'm a Kurd originally from Bakur, but I wanted to ask our brothers and sisters from Rojava and Bashur and anyone else with experience about something that’s been on my mind.
How do Arabs generally react to you being Kurdish? If you’ve lived in Arab majority areas or interacted with them a lot, what have your experiences been like?
Is there a deep seated hatred toward us? And if so, where does it actually come from?
I remember back in high school here in Europe, I noticed that some Sunni Arab refugees seemed to hold a deep internal dislike or prejudice against Kurds. What confused me the most was that at the time, it was Assad and the Alawite regime driving them out of their homes not Kurds. Yet, the moment the topic of Kurds came up, this strong pan Arab nationalist mindset suddenly emerged.
Why do you think that is? I’d love to hear your thoughts and personal experiences.

If a KDP-aligned faction had taken power in Rojava in 2012, would we still have ended up in today's 2026 mess?

I’ve been thinking about an alternative timeline for Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava).
Imagine that back in 2012, at the start of the Syrian Civil War, a nationalist, KDP-aligned group (like the KNC / ENKS Rojava Peshmerga) had established control in Northern Syria instead of the PYD/YPG.
Fast forward to 2026: after a period of relative calm, things escalated into the current mess we are seeing today.
My question is: Would a KDP-aligned Rojava have changed the ultimate outcome, or was this 2026 crisis inevitable regardless?
Option A: Would Turkey, the KRG, and international actors have treated a KDP-aligned region differently, avoiding the current escalation?
Option B: Or would the geopolitical realities (Turkey's security concerns, Damascus, regional powers) have led us to the exact same situation anyway?

Why did KDP Peshmerga leave Shingal in August 2014, and what was Barzani’s justification?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to understand the events of August 2014 in Shingal better.
While I respect the Peshmerga, the retreat that left the Yezidi population unprotected remains a painful topic. I know Barzani mentioned a lack of heavy weapons and blamed local commanders for negligence, but I wanted to ask:

  1. What was the exact official explanation justification given by Barzani and the KDP?
  2. How is this event explained and viewed today among KDP supporters and the broader Kurdish community?
