Foreigner feeling a bit lonely
Hi everyone,
I'm a dual British-American citizen staying in Mon State for the past 3 months, in a town not too far from Mawlamyine. It's a beautiful part of the country, but to be honest, I'm starting to feel a bit isolated as the only westerner here.
I work here as an English teacher, most people are too shy to talk or have very minimal English which is fine of course but I would love some suggestions.
Are there any interesting places to visit, cafés, day trips, cultural sites, hiking spots, or anything else you'd suggest in the area? I'd also be happy to meet people if there are any social events, language exchanges, or communities around.
I'm open to pretty much anything—food, nature, history, or just good places to spend an afternoon.
My Burmese is very very basic and I just know a few words of Mon.
I also want to clarify everyone I have met has been very friendly and I know there are much bigger things than my problems but I thought worth asking about it here.
