Crunch stuff behind vinyl liner...?

Hello. I have a vinyl liner in-ground pool with galvanized steel walls. Paver surround and the drainage isn't great, also poly sand is filling the expansion joint. The pavers were installed without the correct pitch, so water does pool in some areas.

In two sporting the pool, maybe for 5-7 feet and mostly above the waterline I can feel like small crunchy spots? Also large bumps like the size of a pea. It honestly feels like some vermiculite
Got back there but I'm pretty confident it is not construction debris.

I know it could be rust which would suck because the pools only 5 seasons old. What else might it be, could it be calcium deposits almost like small stalagmite's...?

Does this look like normal fading? Pools gets sun literally all day long. I am pretty strict on keeping ph within range, 7.2 to 7.6 about. I add muriatic acid regularly to keep ph down since it is a salt water pool. I keep the chlorine a little on the high side. Maybe getting into 5.0 ppm sometimes.

Pool is in NJ so over the winter the water is not maintained. When they opened the pool this year they mentioned ph was very low, I don't get a chance to check the level before they added baking soda.
