Types of turning counters

So in foil I've seen top athletes like Foconi turning both ways to get a counter on and avoid getting hit. The most common one as a right hander is to go fot the high outside line and then swing your back leg out and round, turning your body anticlockwise.

But in what situations does it make sense to bring your back leg forward and turn almost straight? Is it if your aiming for the low inside line? I see a lot of right handers do this particularly against left handers, where I presume they're going for the low outside line.

Thoughts?
