Anyone else having serious issues with supports since updating to Lychee 8.0?

Since updating to Lychee Slicer 8.0, I’ve been running into constant problems with support placement, model orientation, file handling, and merging.

The update heavily promotes the new support placement and auto-orientation improvements, but in my experience they’ve actually made things considerably worse. I’m using custom support presets, specifically J3D’s presets, and I’m getting supports that are being placed directly through the model/geometry.

The really frustrating part is that Lychee’s own proximity check isn’t detecting some of these intersections. So I can generate supports, run the checks that are supposedly there to catch exactly this kind of problem, get no warning, and then discover after printing that supports have merged into or gone straight through parts of the model.

This has been particularly problematic with things like Space Marine arms, swords, and other relatively thin/high-detail parts. I’m not interested in manually supporting 30 individual arms when the whole point of using Lychee’s automated support system is to have it handle this intelligently.

On top of the support issues, I’m also having problems reopening saved files. Whenever I close and reopen Lychee and try to restore the last file/workflow, it can get stuck in a constant loading cycle instead of actually opening the file. If I haven’t manually saved/backed up my work elsewhere, I can potentially lose the entire workflow I was working on.

I’ve also been running into merging issues. When merging parts, Lychee can get stuck in what seems like an endless merging loop and never actually completes the operation. The only way I’ve found to get out of it is to delete the file I’ve been working on and start over, which obviously means potentially losing a significant amount of work.

So at this point, I’m dealing with three separate issues:

Supports being generated through the model and Proximity Check failing to detect some of those intersections

Files getting stuck loading/reopening, potentially causing loss of work

Merging getting stuck in a loop and forcing me to start the project again.

I’ve already tried changing orientations and support placement, but I’m still getting the same fundamental issues.

Is anyone else experiencing this with Lychee 8.0, particularly when using J3D presets? Is there a setting I’m missing, or has anyone found a reliable workaround?

I’m seriously considering going back to 7.x if these are actual regressions.

Because honestly, if an automated workflow is going to generate supports that intersect the model, fail to flag those intersections, potentially get stuck loading saved projects, and then get stuck trying to merge parts, it makes the whole point of the automation pretty fucking questionable.
