Some questions on the conflict
Hello! I’m a Turkiye mainlander trying to self-educate on the situation in Cyprus and would like to get perspective of people of Cyprus on some questions puzzling me. I appreciate any insights, thank you!
1-) Based on TRNC election results I deduce that even with the settler votes, majority of TCs are pro-reunification and all pro-reunification parties attending the elections support bi-zonal bi-communal federation (YKP is exception, but impossible to gauge their support since they boycott the elections). Similarly, judging from RoC election results parties supporting federation also seem to get majority support. Where is the gist of the remaining disagreement then? Why can’t TCs and GCs come to an agreement (that may or may not satisfy third parties like Turkiye)?
2-) I understand that there is an ongoing ICC filing by GC individuals against Turkiye for settlements, which seems to be progressing at a snail’s speed for 12 years by now. I also understand that RoC can speed up the process by filing as a state party, but she hasn’t. Why does RoC abstain?
