What to put as my address in my personal history statement?
I’m currently living out of my car and have been for a couple of years. Despite that, I’ve been steadily employed for the past 5 years with 4 different companies, mostly in the medical field. No employer has ever noticed or had an issue with it, and I’ve never been fired from a job because of my living situation.
I’m hoping to get accepted into a police academy, and once that happens my plan is to finally get my own place. My concern is the Personal History Statement. It asks for my current residence/address. Right now I use a P.O. box as my mailing address, but technically I live out of my car.
Should I list the location where I usually park/sleep, explain that I’m living in my vehicle, or list my P.O. box and clarify that it’s only my mailing address?
I’ve been a law-abiding citizen, paid my taxes, parking tickets, and any other obligations that have come up. I don’t have a criminal background, I still hold my healthcare certification, and I’ve maintained steady employment. I’m just worried this could be viewed as a red flag in the background process.
Has anyone dealt with this before, especially for law enforcement backgrounds? What’s the best way to disclose this honestly without making it look worse than it is?
