AFMGP (Accounting and Financial Management Graduate Program) Agency Preferences

Hi All,

I recently got an email saying I have been put into an unranked merit pool for the AFMGP.

All I need to do now is to submit my top 5 preferences for agencies I would want to work at. Preferences are due July 19, and first round offers should be sent in the following week or two.

What agencies would be best for someone looking to get accounting and finance experience?
Which ones have the best culture?

What are your personal recommendations or where to avoid?
I have ruled out DVA, NDIA, DSS, Defence, ACQSC because they seem to have a reputation for poor culture or emotionally taxing work.

The ones I have chosen so far are Department of Treasury, Department of Finance, and perhaps Prime Minister's Cabinet (although this one is extremely competitive and I might not even bother to have it waste a spot).

The agencies available are:

  • Attorney-General’s Department
  • Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission
  • Australian Bureau of Statistics
  • Australian Bureau of Statistics
  • Australian Electoral Commission
  • Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
  • Department of Defence
  • Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs
  • Defence Housing Australia
  • Department of Education
  • Department of Health, Disability and Ageing
  • Department of Finance
  • Department of Industry, Science and Resources
  • Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts
  • Department of Prime Minister’s Cabinet
  • The Department of the Treasury
  • Department of Social Services
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs
  • National Disability Insurance Agency
  • National Indigenous Australians Agency
  • National Indigenous Australians Agency
