Strong magnet update

I had made a post earlier asking about strong magnets/complaining about my weak one

Someone in the comments recommended a very strong magnet from AliExpress. https://www.reddit.com/r/XTEINK/s/AEXYfGRNlN

I got the above and have glued this very strong magnet to my magnetic case with contact cement. I think you can use other appropriate glue, it’s just what I had around. It is an extremely strong magnet and I feel secure with it on the back of my phone, as the recommender mentioned, you can hold on to the X3 and it won’t come off. I have added a small lanyard and tab loop that connects the X3 to my phone, in case I drop my phone and the X3 disconnects and flies in another direction. I’m just a little paranoid because I almost lost the reader when I was in a hurry and distracted, and shuffling my phone out of my purse, the other magnet I had was not strong enough. Sure, this magnet is a little thick, but I would say that my phone is still very comfortable to use with this setup.

Outdoor mosaic floor in climate that ranges widely?

Hi there
I have about a 5‘ x 3‘ area in my outdoor space that I would like to mosaic. I’m a beginner, and have had trouble finding information or someone’s DIY instructions on the outdoor aspect of this specifically, or a discussion on whether this is a good idea in a climate that has wide ranges throughout the year (nyc, we had one of the coldest winters this year historically, that’s 3° F for us and right now, in July, it’s like 90° F with some 100° days behind us)

I do have opportunity to control the substrate and make it ideal for this, but no idea what the optimal solution is if there is one. The area is adjacent to a cemented area but this area will need cement fill itself before any mosaicing happens, it’s currently a sort of cinder block perimetered rectangular hole filled with gravel. I’m including a photo of said area.

Would anyone have any resources or input on this?

Thank you!

Rebuttal to pogo pin charger-phobes aka Pogo4Life!

Rebuttal to pogo pin charger-phobes aka Pogo4Life!

I see a distaste for the pogo pin charger in X3 vs X4 decision threads and thought I’d like to dispel some of your fears of the pogo (The Great Pogo) to help you decide.

1)It is not proprietary, it is generic. You can get more for $7/ea on amazon or less from AliExpress

2)You do not need more. You will charge this maybe once in 3 weeks. You can keep the cable plugged in your regular charging area at home only. You do not need one at work and in the car, at your gf’s house and at your mother’s house.

3)Now that I got it, it seems not merely fine but SUPERIOR in its form factor and durability. USB C chargers have a tendency to suffer from: clogged ports with debris, damaged ports/bent receptacle pins over time, effectively bricking your device. I’ve had to replace my iPhone port twice.

4)To expand on point 3, have you looked up what it actually looks like? It is 4 sturdy short pins arranged linearly, which magnetize very neatly onto 4 very shallow indented circles on the device. Very demure, very mindful. Very not prone to breaking or allowing water damage inside. Maybe one day you’ll manage to step on the cable and break it, but I can’t imagine how you’ll ever break the female / receptacle part on the device. Also the pins are on some sort of inner spring and retract when you push them into the body onto which they’re attached, so they have some give against damage. I feel like some of y’all are imagining some sort of 1995 VGA million-pinned monstrosity.

5)This is an appeal to XTEINK - when you release the next X3, please don’t change the port! POGO 4 LIFE!!!!

Anyway, if the pogo is your no-go, and you otherwise like the X3, go for the X3.

Edit: this post isn’t for hypothetical debate purposes, I see a lot of bridges crossed before you come to them in comments. If you got the X3 and actually hate the pogo, please do share for others’ benefit. If you didn’t get the X3, i don’t think the theoretical hesitance towards the pogo is very useful to post about. All of the pogo anticipatory anxiety / catastrophizing in comments is exactly why I thought it was important to make a post focusing on the actual experience with the pogo, not hypothetical preemptive worrying.
Don’t trouble trouble till trouble troubles you.

Stronger magnet ring!

Hi all
I wanted to share that as someone who really likes my x3 to be perma attached to my phone, I recently upgraded my magnetic ring. I ordered from Amazon the “Scosche HD MagicRing Heavy Duty Magnetic Ring”, it’s extra strong because it’s meant to go with some car tablet / phone dash mount they also make. It is not completely flat , it’s about 4 mm, so the x3 does protrude more than it needs from your phone, but I still find my phone comfortable to use with it on. The included magnet ring wasn’t strong enough (edit: clarification thanks to a commenter, that was just a metal circle, not magnet, not sure what magnet is like! One must buy it separately) to keep the x3 attached to my phone when my phone was knocking around inside my bag and now it’s securely attached, yet without a death grip if I need to remove it.

However, if somebody finds a razor thin MagSafe ring version that’s extra strong, please share!

I am also considering seeking out a different MagSafe phone cover, to see if there are others that come with an extra strong magnet
