SteamOS and nVidia
- Yes, I know there is no support for nVidia on SteamOS.
- This is a question for linux experts who also happen to be familiar with SteamOS.
I've been using linux >20 years so this is not my first rodeo.
I'm curious why getting nvidia drivers to work on SteamOS seems impossible when I can get them working on basically any other distro.
been experimenting with the SteamOS recovery image on my minisforum MS-A2.
It works fine -- with some light intervention -- as-is, just AMD decided to put Radeon 610M on the 9955HX for some reason, so I've been trying to get an eGPU nvidia card to work.
Usually I can install whatever I need to on SteamOS by disabling read-only and going to town. nVidia drivers have been a nightmare though, and I don't know why. in theory you should be able to install them just like on any other distro.
I don't know if it's because I haven't successfully disabled the baked-in AMD graphics drivers and they're in conflict?
or some other issue that's inherent to the SteamOS kernel.
