How do you start?

Hi everyone,

I'm the definition of an overconsumer when it comes to clothes. Every year, I buy more because I feel like I have nothing to wear, only to end up rotating between the same 10 pieces that I feel most comfortable in anyway. The rest of my wardrobe gets forgotten until I finally get frustrated enough to pull everything out, try every item on, keep what actually fits and makes me feel good, and get rid of the rest.

I really want to break this cycle. I'm pretty sure it's costing me more money in the long run than if I just invested in a smaller number of high-quality pieces. I also hate doing laundry and cleaning out my closet, so minimizing the amount of clothing I own would be a huge benefit.

The problem is that I have no idea where to start. I don't know what to prioritize, how many of each type of clothing I actually need, or how to tell whether something is genuinely well-made or just expensive because of the brand name.

I'd really appreciate any advice or recommendations for resources—blogs, YouTube channels, websites, books, or anything else that helped you build a more intentional wardrobe.

If it would help, I'm happy to share more about my style preferences, favorite colors, or lifestyle. That said, I'm almost tempted to start from scratch so I can unlearn my bad shopping habits and build a wardrobe more thoughtfully.

Thanks so much!

TL;DR: Overconsumer starting from scratch. I want to build a smaller, higher-quality, more intentional wardrobe but have no idea where to start. Any advice on what to prioritize, how much I actually need, how to identify quality clothing, or recommendations for helpful resources would be greatly appreciated.
