My traditional mead

Recently posted about my two first batches that turned out great, here’s an updated picture of the traditional mead that tasted fantastic. It was hazy, the sediment has settled. Still gets in the glass but I don’t mind. It’s delicious!

UPDATE to my first two batches

Hi all! Just putting out an update on my first two batches of mead. (I did not name them sadly) Ones a traditional mead with just honey, water, and half an orange peel. The other is a Blackberry Raspberry mead. Idk which is technically my first lol I started the traditional first but bottled the Blackberry Raspberry mead first… they were tandem lol but anywhoooo

The BlackRazz one was great from the start. Had little issues during fermentation, cleared very nicely, tasted good at bottling and as of two weeks ago, tasted amazing after aging 3 months. Very pleased with it. Almost reminiscent of a red wine but honey? lol it was quite good. It makes me excited for the triple berry session mead I have going rn.

The Traditional one was interesting. Had a lot of problems during fermentation. Mostly my fault cause I couldn’t stop messing with it(my bad). I had a few moments of worry about it regarding mold or oxidation or what have you (seems like typical newbie experience lol)

It tasted very funky when I felt ready to bottle it. I was very close to throwing the batch away, thinking I’d made something half vinegar or just gross. But I took a leap of faith and bottled it anyways. And boy am I glad I did. 3 months after bottling, my buddies and I were on a work trip and I brought 2 bottles of each. I even warned them when opening this traditional that it was very funky before. Popped the bottle for our DnD session, smell check: Good, very pleasant, almost like white wine. Poured a tankard and it is even better than the BlackRazz one! It was marvelous. Everyone agreed this was better. It was light, crisp, perfect just a little chilled. You get just the faintest hint of orange at the end. It was a little sweet(like 1.020 FG after sweetening or something like that). It was Divine. I was so proud that I couldn’t stop smiling. This mead turned out far better than I could’ve hoped.

Up next, I’ll be remaking this mead in a bulk batch because all the guys wanted a bottle. It’s gonna have to age several months cause we’ll be gone but hopefully that means it’s even better!

Thanks for listening all!

Ps. I did save both recipes so I can remake them later lol
