Why do people pick certain people to joke about?

Why do people pick certain people to joke about?

Generally, why do people in groups feel like they can make fun of or laugh at some people, while they leave others alone?

Personally, I’ve noticed this happening with me. It’s been about a month since college started, and I’ve started wondering what makes someone seem like an easy person to joke about. Is it their personality, body language, confidence, or the way they react when people joke about them?

I’ve noticed that some people can say or do the same things, but others just don’t get targeted the same way. What makes people decide who they can joke around with and who they shouldn’t?

Starting college soon — how do I change my social life?

18M here. In school, I’ve pretty much always been the punching bag in my friend group. Constant roasting, insults, being excluded, people taking advantage of me, etc. And honestly, whenever I tried to stand up for myself, it somehow became even more of a joke.

I’m starting college soon and I really want a fresh start. I don’t want to carry the same personality/dynamic into college.

For those who’ve been through something similar — how did you change how people treated you? How should I behave when meeting new people, set boundaries without looking like an asshole, and find genuinely good friends?

Would appreciate some practical advice from fellow Tamil teens. 🙏

Should I skip my college inauguration to meet an online friend?

I have a female friend I’ve known online for a while, but I’ve never met her IRL. She’s in my city tomorrow, and this might be my only chance to meet her for another year.

The problem is I have my college inauguration at Panimalar tomorrow from 8:30–2. I’m not sure if it’s actually mandatory — I checked the college rules but couldn’t find anything saying the inauguration itself is compulsory. Anyone from Panimalar know?

They’re also giving us our books tomorrow (basically 2 huge katta pai bags 💀). If I skip, I’ll have to collect them on the first day and carry both home.

My mom knows I want to meet her but she’s pissed that I’m skipping college “just to meet a girl.”

Also, there’s basically no signal in college, so I won’t even be able to properly talk to her if I go.

Her parents will be with her anyway, so it probably won’t even be a long conversation. I just don’t want to miss the chance and regret it for a year.

What would you guys do? 😭
