Early Nuss Removal vs Nerve Pain (29M, 2.5 yrs with 1 bar) – Need CT Scan Evaluation / Doctor Recs (NZ or Online
Hey everyone,
Looking for advice or doctor recommendations (in New Zealand or open to remote consults).
My Situation:
Age/Bar: 29M, single Nuss bar placed 2.5 years ago for mild PE.
Original Plan: Keep it for 3 to 4 years.
The Issue: 4 months ago, I developed severe neural pain around my shoulder, scapula, and the bar/stabilizer sites.
Current Status: Daily life is fine with Pregabalin, but strenuous physical activity (like multi-day hiking) triggers intense flare-ups.
The Dilemma:
My surgeon in Chile is suggesting an early bar removal at 2.5 years. However, I’ve lost confidence in him—he uses older techniques, placed only one bar, and wants to proceed with removal without even ordering a CT scan to check bone consolidation or evaluate the nerve impingement.
Because aesthetics and preventing regression are huge priorities for me, I am terrified of taking it out too early without objective proof.
What I Need Help With:
- New Zealand Doctor Recommendations: Does anyone know a trustworthy PE specialist in NZ who understands adult Nuss management?
- Remote Consults / CT Reading: Is there a recognized PE specialist worldwide who offers online consults to review a chest CT scan for bone density and nerve placement?
I want a professional second opinion on whether my bone consolidation is solid enough for early removal, or if I should manage the pain for another year to guarantee my cosmetic result.
Thanks in advance for any insights!
