Why was Christa Pike sent to the hospital?

Why didn't they just keep pumping more poison into her veins until she died? If they ran out of poison, why didn't they just let her lay on the gurney until she died naturally? Since she's on life support, doesn't that mean she'd be dead if they don't continue? Can't they just pull the plug on her?

Why do people work into their 70s if they don't need to?

I don't get it. Some of the executives where I work are in their 70s. I've heard them talk, and what they talk about is so incredibly boring. They seem stressed a lot too. Why don't they quit and travel, play golf, or whatever makes them happy rather than deal with white collar stuff until they're almost dead?

I asked Grok which prison he'll likely go to after sentencing

Here is what it said:

**No one can say with certainty**—the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) makes the final designation after sentencing (scheduled for December 18, 2026), and it has not been announced or leaked.

### How designation works

The BOP classifies inmates using a points system that considers:

- Offense severity (this was a premeditated killing via stalking, so it scores high)

- Sentence length (prosecutors are seeking life; even a long term-of-years sentence would push toward higher security)

- Criminal history (first-time federal offender, which helps slightly)

- Public safety factors (high-profile status, media attention, and the nature of the crime often lead to higher security or special management)

- Medical/mental health needs, program needs, and proximity to family (he is from the Maryland area; BOP prefers placement within ~500 miles of the release residence when practicable)

High-profile defendants who receive long or life sentences for violent crimes are usually sent to a **United States Penitentiary (USP)** — high-security facilities — rather than medium-security FCIs or low-security camps.

### Most likely candidates (Northeast/Mid-Atlantic focus)

Because of his ties to Maryland and the New York case, the BOP will probably try to keep him in the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic region if bed space allows. Facilities that commonly receive similar high-security, long-term, or high-profile male inmates include:

- **USP Allenwood** (Pennsylvania) — Part of a large complex; frequently used for high-security placements from the Northeast.

- **USP Canaan** (northeastern Pennsylvania) — High-security; has housed other high-profile or serious violent offenders.

- **USP Hazelton** (“Misery Mountain,” West Virginia) — High-security; relatively close to the Mid-Atlantic.

- Other possibilities in the broader system: USP Lewisburg area facilities, or farther options like USP Terre Haute (Indiana) if regional beds are full or if special management is needed.

Lower-security spots such as FCI Fort Dix (New Jersey) are far less likely given the offense and potential life sentence (Fort Dix is more common for white-collar or shorter-term cases).

### Bottom line

The single most probable outcome, based on typical BOP practices for this profile, is a high-security USP in Pennsylvania (Allenwood or Canaan being the strongest regional fits). Exact assignment will not be known until after sentencing and the formal classification process. Once designated, his location becomes public via the BOP inmate locator using register number 52503-511.

Put in notice and called in sick for last day

I had put in 2.5 weeks' notice and my boss told me that we were going out to eat on my last day. I had worked for the organization for 17 years, and towards the end I had become fed up with it. I couldn't stomach sitting at a big table in a noisy restaurant, seeing the fake smiles and having people who weren't nice to me act friendly and tell me that they'll miss me. I just wanted to leave quietly and leave everyone behind, so I did. I just sent my boss a text in the morning on my last day, letting him know that I wouldn't be coming in. I told him I wasn't feeling well.

I haven't missed working there. It is such a wonderful feeling leaving a workplace with unpleasant people, knowing that you'll never see, speak to, or otherwise interact with any of them again in your life.

Why are criminal defendants sometimes shackled/dressed up and sometimes not in court?

(TX, case is in NY obviously) I've been following the Luigi case, and sometimes his hands are shackled to his waist in court and sometimes his hands are free for him to use. Also, there are times when he's in his jail clothes and other times when he's in regular clothes or business suits.

I understand that when a jury is present, the defendant should be in nice clothes and not be visibly shackled, but Luigi hasn't made it to trial yet.

Do you actually pay attention during webinars?

I don't believe that I've ever paid attention during a webinar in my career. I normally just play with my phone but keep my headphones on and then randomly click on one of the options when a polling question comes up. Do people actually pay attention during webinars?
