Restaurant forcing me to pay for uniform upon quitting

Left a restaurant job in Toronto. When I asked how to return my uniform, the manager said I can't due to "hygiene" and I have to pay for it. Never was told about this fee.

Under ESA, this looks illegal since I wasn't given prior notice or consent. I'm fine with filing a Ministry of Labour complaint, but my only worry is Toronto's tight-knit hospitality scene—getting "blacklisted" or word spreading among local managers, making it hard to find a new gig.

Should I fight this on principle, or just let it go for peace of mind? Thoughts?
