Completed first ReRead - Thoughts, Rambling & Wild Theories!
So about 5 months ago I decided to start rereading The Wandering Inn. I started around 2019 and have kept up, usually binging every 6 months ago. I have used to reread more frequently back in the predigital days, but there is a lot more I'm interested in reading now so I tend to only reread my favorites.
Spoilers: All. You've been warned.
TWI remains one of my favorite series of all times. The beginning is a bit shaky in places, but holds up fairly well. Ryoka was less annoying then I recall but it may be due to my wisdom increasing as I get older (or maybe the rewrite). I wish the volumes were shorter / split up, the as the series goes along they are far too long. After a large thing happens just end the volume and start a new one imo. Recent example would be palace of fates. One of my least favorite updates was the multiple drafts / short stories; are these cannon? Will other updates basically use the same story just fleshed out like one of them already has? I'd prefer to get no update at that point.
Favorite characters (I don't really have characters I dislike; odd I know):
Saliss, Salii, Niers, GDI, Khorpe, Trey, Yelroan, Garry, Moore, Nerul, Ishkr, Liska, Wilovan, Ratici, Normen.
On the reread it's very obvious that Erin was intentionally kept under 50 only for storyline reasons. She literally defended her inn from a Teriach level threat (Touv), then convinced him to be a guest afterwards. That's kind of the most innkeeper type thing that ever innkeepered. Then defended her inn from a god. Sure, there's some claptrap thrown in later about the GDI leaving people it likes at their capstone too long, but it's covering for an obvious inconsistency. I think she perhaps wasn't given enough levels too when she finally leveled up but that's more arguable.
I'm assuming the 10 years in the future palace had the original earther xp modifier (as events wouldn't have transpired that changed it) as that's kind of the only thing that would explain so many high level heroes. From what we know heroes in general do not level up any faster (though heroes cheat, so individual heroes might).
On to wild theories!
I'm fairly confident that Numbtongue will be the goblin king eventually. It feels like with his class he has the possibility to be the goblin king and not be overridden by the first goblin king. Both Rags and Rabbiteater are the obvious front runners but I don't think that's how it'll end up.
The blighted kingdom's antagonist arc has been building for awhile now. I think it'll pop soon.
Likely additions to Flos's 7: Salii, Trey, Orjin, Femithain, Yelroan.
Cheers
