Is the work that bad? (Local 27)

I've been in construction for almost 7 years. started framing and now I do renovations, drywall and some painting for a contractor (making 31$ an hour).

The thing is I just recently got accepted to the Formwork course at CCAT and am hoping to use it as a pipeline to get into Local 27 to become an apprentice and hopefully get my red seal eventually.

I'm worried about quitting my job, taking the course and being out of work. I'm really just looking for guidance if it's worth losing 2 months of wages, a pay decrease for a potential union gig.

How do I get an apprenticeship?

Been looking for an apprenticeship for a while. I really want electrical but it seems full nowadays. I'm also considering Plumbing, Gas Technician or Elevators.

I also did an electrical course at Sheridan about 7 years ago. Life happened and I wasn't able to pursue till now.

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

In Toronto and looking to switch careers.

How would one approach a career into I&C? Is it beneficial to.go back to school or just get safety tickets and try to find an apprenticeship while I'm working.

I'm 32 and I want to change specialty

I went to school for electrical and passed the 1 year program about 7 years ago. I am currently doing handyman work doing broad tasks like renovations, demolition, painting and other odd jobs. I am the assistant and I'm making 31$ an hour (Canada) get picked up and working on my driver's license.

But here's the kicker, I hate my job, it's so much work and it's destroying my body, I have no benefits either.

Is it to late to switch? I have interests in energy and gas, or electrical again. Would the pay cut to restart be worth it?
