Increasing levothyroxine causing blood pressure to go up?
My blood pressure has been higher lately, wondering if anyone else has run into this with increasing levothyroxine? My doc has been slowly upping my levothyroxine as I had an extremely elevated TSH (went from 52, down to 31, then 18, now 15 when taking 112 mcg Levothyroxine, still a work in progress). Im PAI, I've had to take slightly more hydrocortisone due to increased metabolism but its still not a lot. 10 in the morning, 5 at lunch (up from 7.5 morning/5 lunch). Also around this time, my period has been super irregular, having it twice a month, not sure if thats related.
Now I am dealing with high blood pressure (for me), around 120/80 +. I also have marfan's syndrome and am supposed to keep BP under 110, I am already on atenolol and losartan for BP....I try skipping fludro and it helps bp stabilize somewhat, if I take it it goes up further. Would an increase in levothyroxine cause BP to go up? Would it cause me to not need fludro any longer? I was stable on my fludro before this and now it seems like I can't tolerate it, especially when on my period, without my bp going through the roof. It comes in waves though, then I will get dehydrated and need the fludro... Is this related to the levothyroxine or does anyone have any idea why all of a sudden the fludro went from being ok to feeling so over the top? I am not overweight, I manage stress pretty well, but my BP can be all over the map, it is getting exhausting to figure out which lever is off. In one day I can go from 70/35 to 140/80 BP. (I can tolerate low BP pretty well and am used to being on the lower side).
