Day 153: Lucy Goes to Monte Carlo

Day 153: Lucy Goes to Monte Carlo

It's not a favorite, Fred, who counts every last penny, and mistakes $300.00 for $3,000.00. Lucy accidentally winning all that money and was too afraid to tell Ricky. Ethel is her alibi, and why would Ricky get mad for her winning $2,500. The funny part is Fred being all nice to Ethel because he thinks it's her money until she tells him, and he just drops her on the floor.

Some fun facts: The gambler in the fez at the roulette table is none other than writer Bob Carroll, Jr.

Vivian Vance is in fancy clothes in this episode, just like Lucy. This is the beginning of Vivian demanding to have Ethel look more glamorous on the show, being tired of having to look frumpy. Vivian will get more leeway with her wardrobe and hair in the following season, but she won't have looking more glamorous in her actual contract until the start of The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.

Day 152: Lucy's Bicycle Trip

Does anyone else feel this could have been two different episodes? I would have loved to see more interaction with them on the farm with the Farmer and his family. I love how Lucy just calls everyone boring because they refuse to risk hypothermia to swim in the Mediterranean or bike. Then Lucy casually goes down and rents the bikes because she knew they'd cave. I'll say it again and sure in future episodes, but why trust Lucy to hold important documents?? I know we wouldn't have a storyline in some, but girl can't be trusted.

Some fun facts I found

Lucy put honey on her cheek to get the goat to lick her face.

Lucy had never milked a cow before, and she was extremely proud of her performance. She had one stream of milk come out very nicely, but she didn't think the light caught the stream for people to see it.

Day 151: Lucy's Italian Movie

I would be livid if Fred pulled that to save money. He deserved to stand up and sleep. It's hilarious that he just lays on them wince Fred can sleep anywhere. The vineyard scene is classically hilarious, I do think the women were just mean to Lucy for no reason. I've always wanted to stomp grapes, but like Lucy, I would be tired after 5 minutes. The fight scene was funny but so intense I feel. Then, the end where Ethel gets offered the part, she does come across more of an American Tourists than Lucy, to be honest.

It's a good episode, though. What do you think?

Day 150: Lucy Gets Homesick In Italy

This is such a sweet and wholesome episode. I love the gag of them going up and down the stairs and Ricky smacking his face on the bed. However, the time difference?! They knew there was one when I'm California, why wouldn't that travel overseas? The kids in the episode are adorable, and the fact it was all their birthdays and Lucy and Mertz's just go along with it. I think if it wasn't the Little girls actual birthday, they still would have given them the gifts. The kids singing Happy Birthday to Little Ricky is the sweetest. It's such an adorable episode.

Day 149: Lucy In The Swiss Alps

It's definitely one of my top episodes from the European arc. Fred sending the band somewhere else is so out of character I feel. Which makes it more funny to me. Them all laughing, trying to get Ricky to laugh, which he does and then tells Fred he's fired.

Ethel and Fred came in their outfits, and Viv really had beautiful legs.

Climbing the mountain, and they're afraid they lost Ethel. I mean, Fred is in better shape than I thought if he's able to climb a mountain.

They get stuck in the cabin and telling secrets besides Ricky because he's "no fool." It's funny that their "last moments" they never say anything about Little Ricky.

The real MVP is the Swiss band. They tried so hard to play what Ricky wanted them to and ended up saving them. I hope they got to play with him.

Day 148: Lucy Gets A Paris Gown

It's such a fun episode, IMO. Ricky and Fred are trying to be sly saying the girls weren't invited to the fashion show. They really think they could keep the girls away from a fashion show?

Fred and Rickys' reaction to seeing the models walk by cracks me up. Even the background actors are laughing, and Lucy and Ethel are just in awe.

I love Lucy's "Hunger Strike" when she gets all the stuff to make a sandwich out of her hidden places.

Then the boys make their own dresses. Too bad the girls burned the dresses they probably could have sued and made some money. Did they ever get their dresses? Would love to see what they ended up choosing.

Also, Miss. Georgia Holt! No wonder Cher is so timeless, Georgia was beautiful.

Day 147: Lucy Meets Charles Boyer

I like this episode, and it's so funny how Lucy can be so Nonchalant when she thinks it's not a celebrity, and as soon as she knows it, all goes downhill. It's funny Ricky "plays jealous" I mean they just got back from Hollywood and she did kiss Bill Holden, you think if he was to get jealous it would be from that, but that's me. Lucy describing Charles to Ethel and then growls is so funny to me for some reason. Then everything going wrong at the end once they know he really is Charles Boyer.

Fun fact: Charles Boyer was so vain about his clothes that he refused to wear his own clothes for the scene where Lucy ruined his outfit. He also didn't want to wear clothes he deemed inferior that came from the wardrobe department. Desi had to give Boyer one of his own coats to have the women rip, and Boyer got his way by having disappearing ink be used on his shirt instead of real ink.

Day 146: Paris At Last

Alright, we're back to great episodes, IMO. The translation scene is probably one of the greatest scenes in the series. Not only them translating but the mannerisms they do also is top tier. Lucy and Ethel, and even Fred are gullible to think that man was actually going to give them more money to go through him, ummm red flags! The only issue I have is that I didn't like Lucy ignoring the Mertzs because she didn't want to come across as tourists. Girly! You ordered snails with ketchup and plugged your nose with the device. Ohhhh Lucy. This is such a great episode!

Day 145: Lucy Goes To Scotland

I remember watching this for the first time as a kid and was so excited the thought of Lucy visiting her relatives. Knowing how crazy Mrs. Mcgillicuddy is and the photo of her great-grandfather from (Lucy becomes a sculpture). I thought I was in for a good episode. My mom just said, "Oh, no honey. It's not that good." Then I saw this fever dream musical. I wish she met her relatives, and Ricky and the Mertz's had to deal with her crazy relatives and Lucy. I will watch this over the Fox Hunt, but I hardly pay attention. It's basically background noise. Fred and Ethel as the two-headed Dragon is funny, I but they both loved being in that hot costume and that close to each other.

Day 144: The Fox Hunt

I don't like this episode. I don't like how flirty Angela is and how oblivious Ricky is, and then Lucy just has to play ball. Honestly, I'd watch the Scotland episode before this one. Those who enjoy it, I'm sure there are many good scenes, but it's a no for me. Okay, Lucy riding the horse is quite funny I'll admit to that.

Day 143: Lucy Meets The Queen

You think Fred would of figured out how currency works in each country. I love how Ethel knew and just left. Lucy trying to meet the Queen and ends up getting an autograph from Ricky and trying to make the guard laugh.

My two favorite parts is Lucy grabbing Ricky telling him if he doesn't put her on his show she'll give him such a punch he'll talk funnier then he does now. Then of course the ending number the two women in it are such wonderful dancers.

Day 142: Second Honeymoon

I love this episode only because we get to see a different site to Fred and Ethel. I mean Ethel in those cat eye glasses 🥵. I do feel bad for Lucy, but again, Ricky told her how busy he'll be, and she still insisted on coming. He is managing to get an evening off tellsnyou how much he loves her. Also, Little Kenny is the sweetest little boy!

Also, Happy Mother's Day!

Day 141: Bon Voyage

I love how they use every form of transportation throughout the series. Fred saying goodbye to the blonde and then says goodbye to Mrs. Trumble and Ethle says "That's more your speed."

Lucy willing to leave her skirt behind yo get on the ship. Why was it moving before that door was closed??

Ricky calling the dock supervisor and saying "Hey, Doc!"

The helicopter ride and Lucy saying money is no object.

Lucy finally getting on the ship. It's a fun episode, not a favorite but definitely fun.

Some fun facts: Lucille Ball was petrified to film the helicopter scenes in this episode. In her early career, she fell off a similar lowering system and broke several vetebrae. But being Lucy, she never mentioned her fear the whole time. The cast and crew didn't find out her fear until right before it was time to film. Lucy was so worked up about doing this scene that she passed out from anxiety about 90 minutes before filming started.

When Desi is lifted up by the helicopter (by hanging onto Lucy's legs), he accidentally kicked Vivian Vance in the face, which you can see in the episode. Luckily, Vivian turned quickly enough that she didn't get hurt.

Day 140: Staten Island Ferry

I love the amount of interaction we get with just Lucy and Fred. They're quite hilarious together. I need some of those seasick pills so I can get a good night's sleep. Fred is trying to wrangle an out of it Lucy is so funny.

Lucy coming in and her and Ricky trying to keep her up. When Lucy goes to try to swing at Ricky and spins and falls. I love you can see Desi actually laugh at her.

Fred for the win at the end "Hey! You can go home now."

Helen Kaiser is the absolute worst. Also, your husband is an idiot if he really thinks you're, what? 23, she says? Dr. Peterson is my favorite, and I would love to see him in another episode, like little Ricky's pediatrician. His comedy is on point. I always laugh when Ricky and Marco?? Just pop in to do a quick song and peace out, lol. I like this episode.

I love this episode soley on Fred and Ethel lines and delivery. Ricky practicing how he's going to tell Lucy to Fred and Fred doing exactly what she does!

Ricky: Now Fred she won't act like that!

Fred: My Lucy has red hair and blue eyes. What does your Lucy look like?

Then Ethel stirring the pot. Once Lucy is understanding until Ethel gets in her ear. Ricky acting all confused and Ethel just evil laughing. Though why would Fred put the apartment into Ethel's name? That always surprised me.

Good episode to kick off the European ones

Not really my favorite, it's another one that feels like two episodes in one. It would be funny to see Lucy trying to get into the school to keep an eye on Little Ricky. Though I'm on Lucy's side and would do everything she did to get back in the hospital and stay with my kid. Was that really a thing back then? Parents couldn't stay overnight with their children or was it just like that for the episode?

Favorite line though: Lucy: (to Ricky) Well, [Little Ricky]'s half mine, too, and unfortunately, when I hid MY half, your half went right along with him.

This is probably in my top 10 favorite episodes. Fred being nervous to ask Ricky to perform at his lodge is so adorable. He never asks Ricky for anything really, and seeing him be nervous to ask just is a cute moment. Ricky, not understanding he needed to put on a rodeo is so funny to me. The ending where Ricky loses his holster because he's hips can't lie. Then the bell scene is my my top 3 songs they do in the series. So much fun!

I forget about this episode until it's on. It's not bad but just unforgettable IMO. I do like the end when Lucy is arguing with Ethel and Ricky starts singing louder, then hears what they say and just goes "Yeah!" And starts arguing. Lucy though is me, I wouldn't know how to sit and look relaxed and definitely would take a bite right when I get ask a question.

Of course Fred would be making money off Ricky. Did he share any of the profits? Them coming in and forgetting they left Ricky on the hall was quite funny. Lucy trying to pull the focus away from Ricky and telling her stories is kind of cringe. I do find it funny that all the parties they have with their friends that the Applebee's never attend. The ending though is the best when Lucy is fed up with Ricky and she desperately wanted to say he could shove the Ashes up his butt. It was an alright episode, not my favorite but not horrible imo.
