Ohio hospital denies Talarico was a patient

Link to tweet from the Lindner Center HOPE

After a bizarre weekend of social media-fueled speculation over the circumstances of Rep. James Talarico's recent absence from the campaign trail in Texas, a mental health facility in Ohio has issued a statement refuting viral claims that Talarico had been undergoing treatment there this week. The claims originated from two right-wing influencers on Twitter, Nick Sortor and Rhein Amacher, who posted audio of a likely-staged phone call purportedly with an employee at the facility who confirmed to them that Talarico was there. Amacher apparently made multiple calls to the facility impersonating a member of Talarico's family trying to get information before the viral call in question. The audio was quickly picked up and spread this morning by the entire right-wing social media sphere.

It is unclear at this time if there will be any legal ramifications for the acts, either on behalf of the Talarico campaign or the Ohio hospital.

New poll: Platner is a regular Democrat

Link to article (gift link)

Cross-tabs

The first high-quality poll since Graham Platner secured the Democratic nomination to challenge Susan Collins' Senate seat is out, and it's quite interesting.

The good news for Platner is that the generic ballot in Maine is D+11 (+10 a month ago), bolstered by President Trump's -21 approval differential in the state. The bad news is that Platner underperforms the generic ballot down to a 2-point margin of victory, 49-47 over Collins.

What's most interesting to me is in the crosstabs: Platner is losing men (45-52) and winning women (52-44) by a similar margin, dominating among college-educated voters (68-31) and getting swamped by Collins with non-college voters 31-59. In short, he's polling like a normal Democrat.

One cause for concern for the Platner campaign out of this poll might be the 10% of Harris 2024 voters that intend to cross the aisle and vote for Collins, while only 4% of Trump '24 voters are doing the same for Platner.

This will definitely be a race to watch, as the Republicans haven't begun flooding the state with millions in attack ads yet. On that note Platner's scandals have certainly already had an impact: 47% of likely Maine voters think he is "too extreme" compared to 33% saying the same for Collins, while over 60% said Collins had better character and moral values.

Trump says Iran shot down US Army Apache helicopter, will retaliate

Link to article

President Trump just posted that what had originally been reported as a crash involving a US Army helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz last night was actually an Iranian shootdown, and that "of necessity" the US will respond. The tit-for-tat trip back up the escalation ladder continues apace.

Iran launching missiles at Israel after Beirut strikes

https://apnews.com/article/iran-us-ceasefire-hezbollah-israel-28d80744e192ae0d5cce73a5a08af906

Iran has launched waves of missiles at northern Israel and launches are ongoing after Israel bombed Beirut today. This is the biggest test yet of the fragile truce in the Middle East; Israeli military sources have vowed retaliation while President Trump offered a short but de-escalatory statement asking Iran to come back to the negotiating table.

Edit: one Israeli media outlet reporting that President Trump told Israel not to respond to the Iranian strikes. (Edit 2) multiple sources now reporting this.
