Contractor fatigue

Contractor fatigue has me wanting to leave the trade.

Been working in various trades for over 10 years, I have loved it until recently. Working under someone who is unprofessional and unorganized. I feel like I just don't have it in me anymore. I'm tired and I'm still young enough where I feel like I can probably restart a career *again*.

At the end of the day I know no matter where I go, I'll be fatigued with my boss, and this is exactly why people go out on their own after they get licensed. Unfortunately I still have a few years before I can do that.

I am an apprentice, so it doesn't exactly apply to me right now, but it does for my j-man who is a master electrician and a few other people within the company.

My employer wants us to sign a non-compete agreement stating we will not do any side work, in exchange for a small percentage of kickback if we bring a job in.

We are not union, and I don't really know how I feel about this. It doesn't effect me right now, but it could in the future. I don't want to screw up my opportunity, but it feels greedy and like an overreach.
