Day 1 - Documenting my Caffeine Wean

Day 1: Started the morning with 2 bags of Chai Tea. My morning ritual is drinking 4 cups of Starbucks Pike Medium Roast. So in comparison, thats 50-100 mg caffeine vs 400-700 mg caffeine. As I am drinking th tea right now, I can literally feel my body asking for more caffeine (pressure in my head and headaches feel like they are starting)! I am going to try to not drink any more, but the headaches start getting bad, I'll drink another cup of Chai.

Ready to Break Free From My Coffee Addiction — What’s the Least Painful Way to Quit?

Hello fellow Redditors,

I’ve been drinking coffee every morning for the past 20 years, and I’ve finally decided I want to quit for several reasons.

First, I’m tired of feeling chained to needing 3–4 cups every single morning just to function. Between making the coffee, drinking it, and cleaning everything up afterward, I spend anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours on the whole routine. If I didn’t need coffee, I could get to work earlier and start my day with a lot less hassle.

Second, I can’t ignore how dependent I’ve become on caffeine. If I skip it, I get brutal headaches, nausea, irritability, and just feel miserable overall. That level of withdrawal honestly makes me question how harmless caffeine really is. I haven't made it a full day in my many past failed attempts to do so.

Third, I want to sleep better. I’m tired of waking up groggy and sluggish every morning and immediately needing coffee just to feel normal. I want to be able to sleep through the night, wake up refreshed naturally, and not depend on caffeine to get through the day.

Lastly, I’ve been dealing with severe GERD and heartburn at night, which also affects my sleep. I suspect coffee and/or caffeine may be contributing to it, and honestly, that alone makes me want to try quitting to see if it helps. Even if it turns out not to be the main culprit, all the other reasons are more than enough motivation for me to finally kick this habit for good.

So my question to all you kick-ass caffeine quitters out there: what’s the least painful way to quit? Tapering? Switching to tea first? Caffeine pills? Cold turkey? I’d love to hear what worked for you.

All suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
