Noise from Upstairs Tenant
I live in an old Victorian home, split up into 5 units. For years and years, it's been exclusively working adults in this house. I've been here for 7+ years.
Recently, the attic unit was vacated and entirely renovated (albeit poorly) and a single mom with 2 kids under 2 y'o moved in. I live under them, on the 2nd floor, and the kids are constantly running and stomping around up there. I originally connected with the mother to let her know the house is old and sound really carries so to do her best to keep the kids at a respectable volume but after many messages in a relatively short amount of time about her kids getting a bit too heavy-footed, she snapped at me and basically told me kids will be kids and she's doing her best. Obviously, she's stressed about having to tell them to quiet down all the time and I understand that kids will run and jump and play and whatnot... But there have been occasions where I literally feel the vibration of their jumping/running under my feet or I've been startled awake early morning by their stomps.
Recently, I was chatting with other tenants in the house and the two units living on the main floor have also told me that they can hear the running and stomping in their units (2 floors below!). So that's at least disruption to 3 of 4 other units, confirmed.
Is there anything that can be done to limit the disruptions and keep the peace? Can things be done without involving the LL?
