I’m so excited to finally share the full reveal of my serene master bedroom. This space has truly been a labor of love over the past year, and seeing it all come together feels incredibly rewarding. My goal was to design a room that felt calm, airy, and inviting — filled with natural light, soft neutrals, and rich shades of blue that add depth without overpowering the space. I’ve always been drawn to blue in home decor because it instantly creates a sense of comfort and happiness for me, and I wanted this room to reflect exactly that feeling.

https://preview.redd.it/t52ddsnq8k2h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=ef268fde1c5e5cc15b7b79f7a61d2ee8d504b5ca

I recently updated my nightstands — did you see the before photos?! Sarah found this amazing faux bamboo pair at a thrift store, and I ended up giving them a complete facelift. It’s crazy how one small change can completely transform the feel of a room. They brought so much warmth and character into the bedroom while also making the space feel more collected and personal. Plus, since they have built-in storage, they added a lot more function to an already tight space without sacrificing style.

https://preview.redd.it/rfaczs4u8k2h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=425c4eaf8cb0e68b22d80740534f7200d2d1d453

This room definitely came with its share of challenges — mainly the size. As you can probably tell from the photos, the master bedroom is really small… basically box-sized. Because of that, I wanted to keep the furniture and decor minimal so the space would feel calm instead of cluttered. Believe it or not, when we first toured the house, there was a massive four-poster bed and an oversized dresser squeezed in here, which made the room feel even tighter. Opening up the space without actually moving walls took a little creativity and a lot of editing. One thing I’ve learned from living in a tiny house is that every square inch has to work hard. I recently turned the bedroom next to the master into my dressing room, which gave me a dedicated place to get ready, store clothing, and even add extra seating — all things the master bedroom simply didn’t have room for.

https://preview.redd.it/pr6tdvyy8k2h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=c36561764d67a67eba72950c6e75679dc2485155

Small spaces can definitely be tricky when it comes to layout and functionality, but at the end of the day, I believe your bedroom should feel like a peaceful retreat — a place where you can truly relax and unwind. After so much planning, rearranging, and thoughtful editing, this master bedroom has finally become exactly that for us. My husband and I couldn’t be happier with how it all came together, and it honestly feels like one of the calmest spaces in our home now.

I’d love to know — what’s your favorite design feature in your bedroom? Is it your happy place, or is there something you still wish it had?

Comment below for a chance to win two 8×10 fine art Paris photographs by Danielle Moss of The Everygirl, featured right here in the bedroom!

UPDATE: This giveaway is now closed. Thank you so much to everyone who entered, and congratulations to Amanda for winning the artwork!

A Chic Bedroom That Feels Straight Out of a Luxury Hotel

https://preview.redd.it/q2i72tk7pd2h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f082ed85ee338c0d72999e2e9df9c1dc6cb8cdf

There’s one room in my house that’s constantly evolving… the guest room. Over the years it’s been my office, a cozy spot for friends and family to stay, and, if I’m being honest, sometimes a catch-all for just about everything.

Now that we’re getting ready to list the house, I figured it was the perfect excuse to style it one last time. I brought it back to its original purpose — a chic, inviting bedroom — and I may be a little obsessed with how it turned out.

That said, future guests might have to battle Finn for the space because he’s completely claimed the new bedding as his own. Clearly, he approves.

Click through for lots more photos and all the sources linked at the bottom of the post.

https://preview.redd.it/agm57rjcpd2h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=818e61d8638c70e2fbe677d5f722b9109ac0115b

Lately, I’ve been on such a good streak with vintage finds, and honestly… these velvet upholstered ottomans might be one of my favorite scores yet. I found them at an estate sale, and I was instantly sold on the soft blue-gray velvet. It’s one of those perfect neutral tones that somehow works with everything.

And if you follow me on Snapchat (@sar.gibs), you probably got a good laugh watching me struggle to haul this massive bamboo nightstand into the back of my SUV. The craziest part? I found it sitting in a parking lot. Completely free. I still can’t believe someone was ready to toss this beauty out, but I wasted zero time claiming it for myself.

Kalyn worked a little magic on it and gave it the prettiest facelift — the before and after is seriously so good.

https://preview.redd.it/qz70db8fpd2h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=9f93c64b148caea9e25571e919a4cfa74e202120

It’s kind of amazing what a little paint and lacquer can do, right? This piece looks completely different now.

I also tried a new product during the makeover that I’m officially obsessed with. Instead of going through all the usual lacquer steps, I used a spray can of “Triple Thick Glaze,” and it gave the furniture the prettiest ultra-glossy finish with way less work. Total game changer if you love that high-shine look without the endless process.

And if you want the full DIY breakdown, definitely check out Jacqueline’s nightstand tutorial for all the details.

https://preview.redd.it/yrpxzfphpd2h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=b4e10fc1e3b4cab65f6e2641291dc53e5c684591

https://preview.redd.it/ecwrcfiipd2h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=22ac61fbfc748b09c94b913f4397482d5cfa15c4

Ever since I moved my desk out of this room, the layout finally makes sense. Simply turning the bed and using the built-in architectural ledge as a second nightstand completely changed the flow of the space.

It honestly feels bigger, brighter, and so much more functional now — which is funny because “spacious” is definitely not a word I ever thought I’d use to describe this room before.

https://preview.redd.it/y6h2lmvkpd2h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=c8ac6e677cf5746910e1835dfc55e5a660216df2

I refreshed the room with a neutral Nate Berkus bedding set that looks way more expensive than it actually was. The soft tones tied everything together perfectly and gave the whole space that calm, cozy feel I was going for.

Finn, of course, immediately assumed the new bedding was purchased exclusively for him and wasted no time making himself comfortable. So much for our “no dogs on the bed” rule… clearly he didn’t get the memo.

https://preview.redd.it/7iwy0bsnpd2h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=69673e0a29e7fbc71c0edffbcfd80a6df2e972fb

I honestly felt a little guilty making him move because he looked way too cozy curled up there… probably helped by the fact that he was giving me the most convincing puppy dog eyes imaginable.

https://preview.redd.it/7qfngkzppd2h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=23ffab31dc892b8f3471b321d2f1bb2ef8866a4f

I also lucked out and found a pair of gorgeous velvet Calvin Klein pillows at HomeGoods. They have this really pretty hand-dyed look to them, but the rich velvet texture and moody color palette make them feel a little more modern and edgy at the same time.

https://preview.redd.it/dmmlbuivpd2h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=3f41a3bc96fd62645d9aba8bad5816bcbe431efd

And if you’ve been wondering about the artwork, I actually discovered the artist during my little getaway to North Carolina while wandering through a local interior shop. The craziest part was realizing we had literally just connected about a potential collaboration before I found her piece in person. Talk about perfect timing.

Keep an eye out because I’ll be sharing a brand new Artist Spotlight within the next week or two!

I was honestly starting to feel a little bored with the old monochromatic palette. Bringing in some color, subtle pattern, and layered textures completely changed the mood of the room. Everything feels warmer, more collected, and just a little more elevated and sophisticated now.

What Are Your Go-To Quality Bedding Resources?

https://preview.redd.it/p3yl1afc852h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=b0e397746dfcac440603c523128e15fb76a4f81d

There’s nothing quite like sinking into soft, high-quality bedding at the end of a long day. If you follow along on Snapchat, you’ve probably already seen Piper’s love for lounging in bed, too. Since we spend nearly a third of our lives sleeping, creating a space that feels cozy, comfortable, and relaxing is so important.

After getting lots of questions and interest from you guys, we decided to round up some of our favorite resources for quality bedding — from breathable linen and crisp cotton to beautiful layering pieces that make a bed feel extra inviting. We’ve searched high and low for bedding that’s not only cozy and comfortable, but also aesthetically pleasing, durable, and accessible for everyday living.

https://preview.redd.it/uiq0dv5h852h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=9de940c18105fab32f868147277e5379513c3bdc

Before we dive into the list, here are a few bedding basics that can make choosing pieces for your bed so much easier:

  • Layer, layer, layer. Layering instantly makes a bed feel more inviting and luxurious. It’s often easiest to layer within the same color family — think white on white, beige on beige, or soft gray tones for a cohesive, cozy look.
  • When in doubt, choose white. White bedding feels timeless, clean, and effortlessly classic. It also gives you the flexibility to switch up your style with colorful pillows, throws, and accents throughout the seasons.
  • Prioritize comfort. At the end of the day, you’re the one sleeping there. Choose materials and textures that genuinely feel comfortable to you and fit the way you like to sleep.
  • Stick with natural fibers. Linen, cotton, and other natural materials tend to breathe better, feel softer over time, and create that relaxed, elevated bedding look.
  • Invest in quality. Well-made bedding lasts longer, feels better, and often becomes softer with use. It’s one of those home purchases that’s truly worth investing in.
  • Dress your bed for the season. In warmer months, lightweight coverlets and folded duvets help keep things cool and breathable. During winter, heavier layers and down inserts make the bed feel extra cozy.
  • Use your space wisely. If you rely on under-bed storage, consider adding a bed skirt to keep everything neatly hidden while still maximizing storage space.
  • Don’t forget texture. Texture is what gives neutral or white bedding depth and interest. Mixing linen, quilts, knits, or subtle patterns creates a layered, sophisticated feel without overwhelming the space.
  • Think about your lifestyle. Love a relaxed, lived-in look? Linen may be perfect for you since it naturally wrinkles beautifully. Prefer everything crisp and polished? You may want lower-maintenance fabrics that require less upkeep.
  • Consider cleaning and maintenance. Since bedding needs frequent washing, make sure the pieces you choose fit your lifestyle. Some fabrics require dry cleaning or may be too bulky for standard washing machines, so it’s worth checking care instructions ahead of time.

Here are some of our favorite go-to sources for beautiful, high-quality bedding:

Specialty Retailers

Parachute — Known for their thoughtfully curated collection of premium bedding essentials. We’re especially loving their Sateen Sheet Set in white — soft, timeless, and effortlessly luxurious.

Coyuchi — A dream for neutral lovers. Their bedding features soft, earthy tones paired with understated patterns and organic textures.

Rough Linen — Ideal for that naturally relaxed, perfectly imperfect linen look. Their bedding feels casual, airy, and effortlessly chic.

Loop — A great source for organic bedding and naturally inspired materials.

Boll & Branch — Known for beautifully tailored bedding that feels sophisticated, clean, and incredibly well-made.

Matteo — Amazing for layering pieces and mixing textures to create a cozy, designer-inspired bed.

Crane & Canopy — If you love feminine details and classic embroidery, this is a great place to browse. Their scalloped and embroidered bedding styles are especially beautiful.

While specialty retailers are wonderful for investment pieces, sometimes it’s easier (and more budget-friendly) to shop from larger retailers. These are some of our favorite places for stylish and accessible bedding finds:

Big Box & Retail Favorites

Burke Decor — We especially love their linen collections from Pine Cone Hill for a relaxed yet elevated look.

Bloomingdale’s — Carries a great selection of luxury bedding brands, including Oake, which remains one of our favorites for clean, modern bedding.

Crate & Barrel — One of our favorite sources for crisp, clean white bedding. Their classic white duvets pair beautifully with textured pillows and throws for a layered look.

Urban Outfitters — Surprisingly great for trendy, affordable bedding. They carry fun prints, boho-inspired duvets, tassel details, and relaxed styles that add personality to a bedroom.

Anthropologie — Consistently delivers beautiful bedding with rich textures, soft colors, and unique patterns. Their collections always feel cozy, curated, and design-forward.

Target — A favorite for affordable, everyday bedding that still feels elevated. They carry several surprisingly high-quality sheet sets and neutral basics that are easy to mix and match.

Hopefully you’re now feeling inspired — and fully prepared — to refresh your bedding when the time comes (or simply crawl back into bed for a nap… we won’t judge). By keeping these simple tips in mind and using our favorite resource guide as a starting point, you’ll be able to create a bed that not only looks beautiful, but also feels comfortable, cozy, and perfectly suited to your lifestyle. After all, great bedding can make all the difference when it comes to winding down, sleeping well, and turning your bedroom into a space you truly love coming home to.

Our Guest Room Finally Came Togethe

https://preview.redd.it/7syvpzujlz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=63ff2011eaa4b35081e62be30260652eb63e04eb

The guest room is officially DONE! And honestly, it feels a little surreal finally being able to say that. Get ready for a long post with lots of photos because this project has been a long time coming, and narrowing down the pictures was nearly impossible.

We’ve been chipping away at this room for what feels like forever. Maybe not literally years… but definitely long enough to make finally finishing it feel extra satisfying. Between refinishing the floors, installing new windows, repairing drywall, building a new closet, rehabbing an old chest of drawers, and adding all the finishing touches, this space has completely transformed.

I’m so excited to finally share it with you all. Take a look around and let me know what you think!

And before we get to the finished reveal, here’s a little reminder of where we started. Everybody loves a good before-and-after, right? It’s honestly wild looking back at these now.

https://preview.redd.it/umybkw1ulz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=fa0d5eb206f8762d3013a9600502688ea3831d11

This place was honestly a total dump when we bought it. It had been rented out for more than 20 years and pretty heavily neglected, and you could absolutely tell. This room — and honestly the entire house — had definitely seen better days. It needed a lot of work, patience, and vision to get it to where it is now

https://preview.redd.it/uvd1ysawlz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=47237fe6bb0add4c8b632c750eadf1985c0d46ef

https://preview.redd.it/92lkjyswlz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=614d8a82433d3e97449caf29b9e27e2252a2ddfb

Happy to report that we’ve officially brought this space back to life — and then some. The difference still blows my mind every time I look at these photos. I’m genuinely so happy with how this room turned out.

We’ve been hosting friends and family ever since we moved in, even back when the room was still in pretty rough shape, so it feels really good to finally have a guest space I’m proud to show off. Now it actually feels warm, finished, and welcoming instead of just “good enough for now.”

https://preview.redd.it/nplyksjzlz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=fe5450c3378b5b059033fb71fc99a7fa9f8db0af

https://preview.redd.it/fxk8ml20mz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=4c62f0662a979b64a1caa5229d87e59c16c95261

If you’re wondering about the tallboy dresser, I shared the full restoration in a separate post. It was one of those lucky vintage finds that just needed a little love, and it ended up fitting this room perfectly. The warm wood tones look so good against the soft creamy wall color.

And speaking of paint — we used Sherwin-Williams Emerald Interior throughout the room and were seriously impressed with it. Most of the walls only needed a single coat, which honestly never happens. I know someone will ask, so I’ll save you the trouble: the paint color is Aesthetic White SW 7035. It’s such a good neutral. Not too cool, not too yellow, and definitely not overly beige. Just warm, soft, and timeless.

https://preview.redd.it/u7d9vhe2mz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=86f758d198a6db0dc6c1e49b2ed5c6b487c9fc14

This room is actually pretty small, but we decided to go with a queen bed anyway. Since we host friends and family pretty often, making the space feel comfortable and inviting was more important to us than squeezing in extra floor space. We really wanted it to feel cozy, clean, and somewhere guests could genuinely relax and feel at home.

https://preview.redd.it/tbo2y6o5mz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=42f7e08866fdbbe0bc6712827f25a6bfc0a6aa52

https://preview.redd.it/76ek6hn6mz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=a9321697cdf5f5cba616b5ea80e8f3a63fa0a7d9

You might spot a few familiar pieces in this room that made the move with us from our previous house — especially the nightstands. I still love those vintage bedside tables just as much as the day I found them. They originally lived in our primary bedroom, but their slimmer size ended up working so much better in this space. Sometimes pieces just find the room they were always meant for.

https://preview.redd.it/e2aeez4amz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=40802f9a883cb219583bfc54b12fdbf3640443d1

If you haven’t been following along from the beginning, the very first finished space I shared from our renovation was actually the guest room closet — the one tucked behind those French doors. It ended up being one of the earliest little wins in this house project. You can read more about that makeover here if you missed it.

https://preview.redd.it/lgfwzomcmz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=54edab584061cfa27fb07730ff9fa484bbdf1b45

https://preview.redd.it/kwd0rf4dmz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=733fcfa60fa3aebbe6bff1c91110a99638f8f133

This room was really designed entirely with guests in mind. We kept everything pretty neutral and calming — nothing too bold or overly personal — while still making it feel warm and reflective of Utah and the style of our home. Since most of our visitors come from out of state, we wanted the space to feel welcoming, relaxing, and a little bit like a cozy getaway when they stay with us.

I wanted to work little pieces of Utah into the room in a subtle way — nothing overly themed, just small details that reflect why we love living here. I found an amazing vintage book at a rare bookstore downtown for the nightstand, framed a couple of prints from Utah state parks, and added a tiny cactus from a local greenhouse to the windowsill. Those little touches make the space feel a lot more personal and meaningful without being over the top.

https://preview.redd.it/15uflt6jmz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=464e805a471317ed500aef3e36dc20dbdde12b03

Unlike our last renovation, I really wanted to pay attention to the small details this time around — the kind of things that truly make a space feel finished and thoughtfully designed. I spent way more time selecting trim details for this room, from the panel moulding and baseboards to the crown and window casing. It might seem minor, but those choices completely changed the feel of this otherwise plain little shoebox room and gave it so much more character.

We ended up using trim from a more modern, design-forward collection, and I’m honestly so glad we went the extra mile.

Also, I have to brag on Emmett for a second because he installed every single piece himself and somehow made it all look absolutely flawless. The man is a total perfectionist, and while that definitely means projects take a little longer around here, his attention to detail is always worth the wait.

https://preview.redd.it/4xt1rqaomz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=aaea7b5deda5a643187135115b16ccd219964f8e

One thing this renovation really reinforced for me is that trim should never be an afterthought. It’s not just the “final touch” you tack on at the end — it actually helps build the entire feeling of a space. The same goes for hardware, lighting, and window treatments. Those details may seem small individually, but together they’re what make a room feel layered, intentional, and complete.

You could fill a room with beautiful furniture, but without those finishing details, it can still end up feeling flat or unfinished. Those are the elements that give a space personality and make it feel truly designed instead of just decorated.

https://preview.redd.it/9wzhq4frmz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=24bf8063de5dafff113341265827f5c40b2e78a6

Shifting gears for one last design thought — the window treatments ended up being a surprisingly big decision in this room. Our rambler/mid-century home has some pretty unusual windows throughout the house. They’re brand new, but we kept the original sizing to stay within budget. Like a lot of homes from this era, the windows sit really high on the wall — long, narrow, and starting around five feet up from the floor.

I’ll be honest… I wasn’t sure how I felt about them at first. But they’ve slowly started growing on me, and now I think they add a lot of character.

After going back and forth on options, woven Roman shades ended up making the most sense for this space. They help the windows feel larger and more intentional without adding visual clutter. Plus, I really wanted to bring in some warmth and texture, and the woven bamboo does exactly that. It softens the room in such a natural way.

https://preview.redd.it/mkc0itkdnz1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=48b3c3ab8f9e81f4be8a9e5bd42859ae5e063044

The ceiling light fixture has honestly been controversial from the very beginning… and I absolutely love it for that reason. Before ordering it, I asked a few family members what they thought — mostly for entertainment because I already knew I wanted it anyway (sorry, guys). Every single one of them basically said, “absolutely not.” Ha!

But once it was installed? Total game changer. It’s the perfect scale for the room, has such an interesting shape, and looks downright magical when it glows at night. I have zero regrets. In fact, everyone who originally hated it ended up having their “aha” moment afterward and apologized for trying to talk me out of it.

The sconces were another favorite addition. We put them on dimmers, and they give off the softest, coziest light in the evenings. The swing arms are adjustable too, which makes them perfect for reading in bed. And when they’re not being used, it’s nice to be able to tuck them neatly out of the way.

The Best Handmade Nightstands on Etsy

https://preview.redd.it/s2f0bnas8r1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=6aed6aa9ee723d02fc5c5ce2b4c7dbfc529c640b

Believe it or not, Etsy has become one of my favorite places to shop for vintage furniture. If you’re willing to dig a little, you can find some seriously amazing vintage and custom pieces that feel way more unique than anything from big retailers. I’ve noticed the smaller furniture pieces — like ottomans, nightstands, and side tables — tend to be the best deals since shipping is usually much cheaper. I’m constantly saving cool nightstands, so I figured I’d share a few of my current favorites with you all.

https://preview.redd.it/joi7dowz8r1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=e51551d8c29a9a14229de684e820fc92d1534ed4

I may have gone a little overboard with this roundup… there are 45 nightstands in here. But honestly, there are so many good ones at every price point, style, shape, and size that I couldn’t narrow it down. Some are gorgeous exactly as they are, and others have amazing potential with just a quick paint refresh.

Also, fun fact: I’ve never actually bought a brand-new nightstand. Every single one I’ve owned has been vintage — and there have been a lot over the years. Even all the pieces shown throughout this post are vintage finds.

https://preview.redd.it/7u7fgr959r1h1.png?width=730&format=png&auto=webp&s=c9fb190dfceba345df17c82a43c5ae286884b181

01: white + brass nightstand // 02: vintage modern nightstand // 03: blue nightstand // 04: sleek walnut nightstand // 05: small modern nightstand // 06: oversized lacquered nightstand // 07: solid walnut nightstand // 08: lacquered nightstand // 09: McCobb side table // 10: two-drawer nightstand // 11: minimal glam nightstand // 12: Asian-inspired nightstand // 13: Drexel mid-century nightstands // 14: chinoiserie nightstand // 15: Berkeley nightstand // 16: Century Asian nightstand // 17: modern storage nightstand // 18: mid-century modern nightstands // 19: lacquer + lucite nightstand // 20: Danish modern nightstand // 21: mid-mod nightstand // 22: high-contrast nightstand // 23: metal + wood nightstand // 24: art deco bedside table // 25: walnut campaign chest // 26: grasscloth bedside table // 27: burl Milo Baughman nightstand // 28: Matina modern nightstand // 29: custom lacquered nightstand // 30: bedside dresser // 31: mid-century burl nightstand // 32: pine storage nightstand // 33: navy campaign nightstand // 34: faux bamboo nightstand // 35: walnut campaign tables // 36: mid-century nightstands // 37: Palm Beach nightstand // 38: walnut + leather nightstand // 39: burl wood nightstand // 40: vintage industrial nightstands // 41: American walnut nightstand // 42: vintage Drexel nightstand // 43: Bernhardt campaign nightstand // 44: Hollywood Regency nightstand // 45: Martinsville nightstands

Which ones are your favorites from the collage? I always love seeing which styles other people gravitate toward. Personally, I keep coming back to 10, 16, 24, 25, 26, 29, and 31… which honestly doesn’t narrow it down much at all. There are just too many good ones. Posts like this make me wish I had a house with five extra bedrooms to decorate.

https://preview.redd.it/7vwfl0te9r1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=0aaddfc173d21e312aa9414f7d0bb052e0a31875

About 90% of the nightstands in this collage are being sold as pairs, which is honestly the only way I shop for bedside tables. I’m definitely someone who loves balance and symmetry, so matching nightstands just make a room feel more finished to me.

Another cool thing is that a lot of these vintage shops now offer custom painting options if you want a specific color but don’t feel like taking on a DIY project yourself. And one thing I was really picky about while putting this together: storage. I tried to include mostly pieces with closed storage because, personally, that’s non-negotiable for a nightstand. Cute is great, but I still need somewhere to hide the random bedside clutter.

https://preview.redd.it/y4sijy0i9r1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f8c8fc62fcffd7926d991ec6b7ff9cf896613c8

If you want even more nightstand inspiration, I’ve shared quite a few posts on them over the years. Jacqueline and I have also tackled our fair share of vintage furniture and nightstand restorations at this point. I’m actually getting ready to start another nightstand project for our primary bedroom soon, so I’ll definitely be sharing that one once it’s underway.

https://preview.redd.it/1yg7tv7o9r1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=f8881f1f1b1e057755a934f8cf811a67be57beae

Safe to say this has been one of my favorite “Best of Etsy” roundups so far. If you’re looking for ideas on how to style your nightstands once you find the perfect pair, my friend Joanna recently shared her five nightstand essentials and it’s full of good inspiration. Happy Monday nightstand shopping, everyone — hope you find something amazing and have a great week ahead.

Affordable Upholstered Headboards Under $300 Worth Buying

https://preview.redd.it/e9pvachd1l1h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=cfe218369658701a78efd3d127d8b5d7db5df595

My brother is getting married this October, and since he works for a home builder, he and his fiancée are getting ready to build their very first home together. He recently asked me to help with some design ideas, and obviously I said yes immediately.

The first thing he needed help with was finding a budget-friendly upholstered headboard to pair with the bed frame he’s planning to build himself. While helping him look, I realized there are way too many good options not to share, so I ended up putting together a little roundup featuring some of the ones I sent him.

And honestly, who doesn’t love a good list of beautiful upholstered headboards that are all under $300?

https://preview.redd.it/m59kd1sm1l1h1.png?width=730&format=png&auto=webp&s=707782abbbace45a2296377030704642c1efe31e

01: Region King Nailhead Upholstered Headboard // 02: Theodore Fabric Headboard // 03: Lily Headboard in Ivory // 04: Luna Nail Trim Upholstered Panel Headboard // 05: Annabel Fabric Headboard // 06: Sovereign King Fabric Headboard // 07: Woodside Upholstered Panel Headboard // 08: Dufferin Upholstered Panel Headboard // 09: Josie Upholstered Panel Headboard // 10: Luxe Headboard in Natural // 11: Tallulah Headboard in Denim Blue & White // 12: Faux Slipcovered Nailhead Headboard // 13: Modern Contemporary Dark Grey Upholstered Headboard // 14: Jessamine Upholstered Panel Headboard // 15: Carissa Upholstered Headboard // 16: Theodore Upholstered Panel Headboard in Navy // 17: Patterned Nailhead Headboard // 18: Diane Tufted Upholstered Panel Headboard // 19: Blyth Upholstered Panel Headboard // 20: Isabella Upholstered Headboard

I’m pretty sure he ended up going with option 3 to pair with the DIY wooden bed frame he’s building, and honestly, it looks so good together. I’m already excited to see everything come together once their house is finished. For the price, the quality is surprisingly solid too, which definitely isn’t always the case with budget-friendly upholstered headboards.

Since we already have an upholstered headboard in our own bedroom, I’ll just keep dreaming about the day we finally have a guest room to decorate. Out of this roundup though, I’m especially loving options 14, 18, and 20. And number 9 reminds me so much of the headboard Sarah recently used in her new guest bedroom — it’s almost identical.

A good headboard really changes the whole feel of a bedroom. It makes the space feel more finished, adds warmth and personality, and helps balance everything around it like the nightstands and bedding. It’s one of those pieces that makes a room instantly feel more inviting. Thankfully, there are still plenty of beautiful options out there that don’t cost a fortune.

Are any of you in the middle of a bedroom refresh or currently shopping for a new headboard? I’d love to hear what styles you’re drawn to lately — upholstered, wood, tufted, modern, vintage-inspired… tell me your favorites below!

Room 101: Inside the Master Bedroom Makeover

https://preview.redd.it/i4qecgg2kz0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=b2f966382e6c693eb14b35bfd459be7f6d2e60fc

Since we’ve been chatting about headboards lately, this felt like the perfect time to dive into bedroom design as a whole. When you really think about it, you spend a huge portion of your life in your bedroom. It’s where you sleep, recharge, relax, get ready for the day, and often unwind at night. Because of that, the space should feel functional, comfortable, and reflective of your lifestyle.

Whether you’re fully renovating, starting from scratch, or simply updating a few things, here are some important questions to ask yourself before designing a master bedroom:

• How will I actually use this space besides sleeping? (reading, relaxing, working, dressing, etc.)
• Who else will use the room? (partner, kids, pets)
• What needs to be stored here? (clothing, linens, personal items)
• What’s the realistic budget for this project?
• What are the non-negotiables for this space?
• What would be nice “bonus” features if the budget allows?
• Is storage or square footage a challenge?
• Does the room get a lot of natural light? If so, will you need blackout curtains or better window treatments for sleeping?
• What overall aesthetic or mood do you want the room to have?
• Will you still love these choices in 3, 5, or even 10 years?

Answering these questions honestly will help you create a bedroom that not only looks good, but also works for your everyday life. No matter the size or budget, always prioritize function first, then layer in style. Smart storage, practical furniture, and thoughtful design choices will make the biggest difference in the long run.

https://preview.redd.it/hed0oiollz0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=944665df3da9d57ac924ab3f7588a1d6644f742a

FURNITURE + DECOR TO CONSIDER:

If you’re designing a master bedroom that feels both functional and relaxing, the furniture and decor you choose really matter. Of course, the size of your room will determine what makes sense, but these are some staples worth considering when planning the space.

ON THE BED…

• A comfortable, supportive mattress
• Box spring or foundation (depending on your bed frame and mattress type)
• Quality sheets you actually enjoy sleeping in
• Duvet insert
• Duvet, quilt, or coverlet
• A mix of pillows (I always recommend both soft and firm options)
• Accent pillows for texture and layering
• A cozy throw blanket
• Bed skirt if needed
• Linen spray for that fresh, clean bedding feel

One thing I never regret investing in is a good mattress. I’m personally obsessed with our Tuft & Needle mattress, and quality sheets honestly make a bigger difference than most people realize. I also use linen spray almost daily — it’s such a simple touch, but it keeps the bedroom feeling fresh, clean, and relaxing all the time.

https://preview.redd.it/psqje2cplz0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=59a80b7940a0602ee21ab67c7e67c25e7f8a24c2

AROUND THE BEDROOM…

Beyond the bed itself, there are a lot of furniture and decor pieces that can make a master bedroom feel more functional, layered, and relaxing. Not every room has space for all of these, but they’re great elements to consider while planning your layout.

• A bed frame with rails, headboard, and/or footboard
• A bench at the foot of the bed
• Two nightstands or bedside tables
• Wall sconces or bedside lamps for softer lighting
• Overhead lighting (flush mount, pendant, chandelier, ceiling fan, etc.)
• A cozy area rug to warm up the space
• Artwork or personal decor — bedrooms are honestly the perfect place for meaningful pieces like family photos or sentimental art
• Mirrors, decorative objects, and accessories
• Extra seating if space allows (accent chairs, a chaise, or small settee)
• Window treatments, preferably room-darkening or blackout for better sleep
• Closet organization systems to maximize storage
• Ottomans for seating or at the foot of the bed
• A dresser or additional storage furniture

Of course, in a dream world every bedroom would fit all of these beautifully, but realistically most spaces have limitations. The key is choosing the pieces that best support your lifestyle, storage needs, and the way you actually use the room. Prioritize comfort, function, and flow first — everything else can build from there.

https://preview.redd.it/0is6ghdtlz0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=2417a30699497a35271acddb9f363c347e90242d

THE GREAT BED DEBATE:

Shopping for a bed can feel overwhelming these days because there are so many options at every price point. On one end, you have full designer beds with upholstered headboards, rails, and footboards. On the other, you can grab a basic metal bed frame for the price of dinner. Neither option is wrong — it really comes down to budget, priorities, and how you want the room to feel.

FULL BED (HEADBOARD + RAILS + FOOTBOARD)

If the budget allows, this is definitely the easiest and most polished option. Whether it’s a beautiful wood frame or an upholstered bed, a complete bed instantly makes the room feel finished and intentional.

The best part? Once you buy it, you’re basically done. No extra pieces, no DIY fixes, no trying to disguise a metal frame later on.

HEADBOARD ONLY

This is honestly one of the best ways to get a high-end look without spending a fortune. A good headboard can completely transform a bedroom and give you the visual impact of a full bed setup.

The downside is that the standard metal frame underneath is usually exposed, which can take away from the overall look. The easiest fix is adding a bed skirt to hide the rails and create a cleaner finish.

BED FRAME ONLY

If you’re working with a super tight budget, don’t stress. A basic frame absolutely does not mean your bedroom has to feel unfinished. There are a lot of simple ways to fake the look of a styled bed setup.

A few easy ideas:

• Add a bed skirt to conceal the metal frame
• Hang oversized artwork where a headboard would normally go
• Use a tapestry or textile wall hanging for softness and texture
• DIY your own headboard
• Paint or wallpaper the wall behind the bed to create contrast and visual interest

At the end of the day, a bedroom doesn’t need expensive furniture to feel cozy and well designed. A few thoughtful details can completely change the way the space looks and feels.

https://preview.redd.it/q5cwrz1zlz0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=e15db316dd518d780b3699f78d79ab4acff083dc

CONTROVERSIAL BEDROOM OPINIONS:

There are a few bedroom design topics that people feel very strongly about, and honestly, there’s no single “right” answer. A lot of it comes down to personality, lifestyle, and what makes your space feel good to you. Here are a few of my most controversial bedroom takes:

RUGS

I know jute rugs are everywhere because they’re affordable and versatile, but personally… I don’t love them in bedrooms. The bedroom is the first place your feet touch in the morning and the last place they touch at night, so comfort matters. Scratchy textures just don’t create that cozy feeling for me.

This is one space where softer, higher-pile rugs, wool rugs, or plush textiles really shine. They instantly make the room feel warmer, calmer, and more luxurious.

PERSONAL ART + PHOTOS

I’m not someone who fills every room in the house with family photos or personal images. I usually prefer decorating with artwork, collected pieces, or objects that feel interesting and intentional.

That said, if there’s one place to lean personal, it’s the bedroom. It’s your private space. Guests rarely spend time there, which makes it the perfect spot for wedding photos, candid family moments, sentimental art, or anything that genuinely makes you happy.

THE TV IN THE BEDROOM

Okay… this one always divides people.

We’ve never had a TV in our bedroom, and honestly, I love it that way. For us, the living room is the place for watching TV, and keeping screens out of the bedroom helps the space feel calmer and more restful.

That said, I know plenty of people love winding down with a show at night, so this one really comes down to lifestyle.

MUSIC > TV

While I’m anti-bedroom TV, I’m very pro-bedroom music. A small wireless speaker or sound system completely changes the mood of a room. Music while getting ready in the morning or relaxing at night just makes the space feel more alive and comforting.

MAKING THE BED

I’m absolutely a bed-maker. Every single morning.

An unmade bed instantly makes the whole room feel chaotic to me, while a made bed makes everything feel cleaner and calmer — even if the rest of the room isn’t perfect.

But if you’re not someone who makes the bed daily, lean into that relaxed look instead of fighting it. Soft linen bedding, layered textures, and slightly undone styling can actually look intentional and cozy.

BALANCE + SYMMETRY

I personally love symmetry in a bedroom. Matching nightstands, matching lamps, balanced layouts… my brain loves it.

But mismatched furniture and lighting can look just as beautiful when it’s done thoughtfully. The trick is making sure the pieces still feel balanced visually. Different doesn’t have to mean random — cohesive finishes, similar scale, and equal visual weight make all the difference.

https://preview.redd.it/rq9qeid3mz0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=c2e93c1b1878bafaab4b4c4d2431e44e4a98fdc2

In case you’re wondering about the finer details and finishing touches, those are often the elements that truly make a bedroom feel complete. The big furniture pieces matter, of course, but the textures, lighting, materials, and small styling decisions are what bring warmth, personality, and comfort into the space.

https://preview.redd.it/lnvngun6mz0h1.png?width=730&format=png&auto=webp&s=e7a85e25d507079d2e94b3711ab8b78bb42b9cdb

One thing to keep in mind: bed dimensions can actually vary depending on the country. The standard sizes most of us reference are based on common U.S. measurements, so if you’re ordering furniture or bedding internationally, it’s definitely worth double-checking dimensions first.

I’ll also say this — if there’s one place worth splurging a little, it’s window treatments in the bedroom. Blackout curtains or room-darkening shades make such a huge difference in sleep quality, comfort, and the overall atmosphere of the room. It’s one of those upgrades you appreciate every single day.

Honestly, I think bedrooms are one of the easier spaces to design because they serve such a clear purpose. Once you focus on comfort, function, storage, and a calming atmosphere, the rest tends to come together naturally.

What about you guys? Have you ever struggled with decorating your bedroom or figuring out the layout? Hopefully some of these ideas make the process feel a little less overwhelming.

Our Master Bedroom Reveal Finally Finished and Feeling Like Home

https://preview.redd.it/gjpb39aocl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=e47a2d1f8d6cae1b48122bb8ada147e75e05293e

After what felt like forever waiting on the final pieces to arrive, I can finally share our finished master bedroom — and honestly, I’m still kind of obsessed with how it turned out. Fair warning: this is a massive photo dump because I couldn’t stop taking pictures once everything came together.

This room went from being one of the worst spaces in the house to easily one of my favorites. I used to hate lying in bed staring at yellowed walls and outdated finishes, and now I genuinely look forward to winding down in here every night.

For the makeover, we refinished the floors, added contrast moulding, replaced the doors and windows, and updated all the lighting fixtures. I included plenty of before-and-after shots so you can really see how dramatic the transformation was. Full reveal below!

https://preview.redd.it/xmczk0btcl0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=5afe9ead918263f885d26a9c09f91a01ecf8550e

https://preview.redd.it/n41dyeutcl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=b5a919a502fc89e781d562e807888aeab7fdc1ea

The before photos honestly make the room look way better than it actually was in person. I pulled them straight from the original listing, and I’m pretty convinced they were heavily edited because the space looked much rougher in real life.

https://preview.redd.it/0ul9mbywcl0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=77bee09b5c31fa7f2d8fa007e45ae0fc63f98733

https://preview.redd.it/rb0i7nmxcl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=c3155eb1adc9b452306cd8154868338990434ade

As soon as you walk into the room, I wanted the new millwork to immediately stand out. I found this charming vintage oil painting from the 1930s and installed it within the panel moulding — it fits the space and color palette so perfectly that it almost feels original to the house.

https://preview.redd.it/8yrlbd30dl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=d555e67cb34616eededd692a07da0758ce13f759

Here’s the view from the opposite side of the room. I completely lucked out finding this vintage runner from Woven in Vintage (my go-to Etsy shop). Honestly, I couldn’t have designed a more perfect rug for this space if I tried.

Usually I build a room around the textiles — pulling paint colors and the overall palette directly from the rug or fabric. This time, I did the exact opposite. I already knew the color palette I wanted, so the challenge became finding a rug that actually worked with it. Definitely the harder route.

Somehow the stars aligned, and here she is… officially my new favorite rug.

https://preview.redd.it/2wnk1lo3dl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=994d4d208eb9e73bf5b4e97af8abc44d13e71d2b

https://preview.redd.it/7owevvd4dl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=5556b593ca516b5ba8ac2943f9e86d1483de619a

We added sconces on both sides of the bed, and they’ve quickly become one of those things I can’t believe we lived without for so long. These things move in basically every direction imaginable. The shades tilt up, down, and side-to-side, and the hinge arm adjusts too, which makes them ridiculously functional while still looking beautiful.

https://preview.redd.it/mq5jgvs6dl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=baba1ad75cb26ae40dc971f95557fd259df79135

https://preview.redd.it/n35f3uh7dl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=40384239b78e5e7dd72a50968f61e6700991ce17

If you’ve been following along for a while, you probably remember the nightstand makeover. I’m happy to report they’ve held up beautifully and ended up being the perfect scale for this space.

One of my favorite things about this room is that almost everything in it has a story behind it — especially the objects on my nightstand. Emmett actually dug up the mid-century bowl in the backyard of our old Ohio house, and since unpacking it here in Utah, I’ve been slowly filling it with little finds from hikes and weekend exploring. I always try to bring home an interesting rock, crystal, or geode from wherever we go, so the bowl has kind of become a collection of memories from this chapter of life.

https://preview.redd.it/v9vdq0z9dl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=e5f7a0d9ec66a134f695e2f64eb878fe232a330c

https://preview.redd.it/9x3bmcoadl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=5e5131ad7b67381c56e9757a96fa545530580168

You’ll probably recognize a few pieces from our previous bedroom. Emmett insisted we keep the sheepskin rug on his side of the bed because apparently he got used to stepping onto it every morning, and now there’s no going back. Ha.

We also kept our bed, which was never really up for debate. It’s one of those pieces I don’t think we could ever part with. I custom designed the leather upholstered frame years ago, and it’s still the most expensive furniture purchase we’ve ever made. Somehow I love it just as much now as I did the day it arrived.

https://preview.redd.it/h9vxopfedl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=6fd381a32f58e8f392e60d9acc117590f151c891

https://preview.redd.it/3hmmpn0fdl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=d8e46db39929b772f3676655b709323f11b34e58

We did switch up the bedding after moving, though. This time we went with a linen duvet, and I honestly couldn’t love it more. Even as someone who faithfully makes the bed every morning, I’m really drawn to that relaxed, perfectly imperfect linen look. The soft wrinkles make the room feel so much more inviting and lived-in — plus it’s unbelievably cozy.

https://preview.redd.it/np2ur8mhdl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=40214d3ecb44b45c5db4f70fb6c84bd8d70864f0

I’m also completely obsessed with the accent pillow. It was such a good find from Coveted Home (they seriously curate the best pieces). The warm orange tones in the kuba cloth pair so perfectly with the cognac leather bed and tie everything together in such a cozy way.

Honestly, after seeing black-and-white mudcloth textiles absolutely everywhere for the past few years, I’ve kind of moved on from them. Kuba cloth feels warmer, more layered, and a lot more unique right now.

https://preview.redd.it/wg6zx6fldl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=ef1339ac82eb18e5e7bd1e552453686ab2a2b042

I definitely have to talk about the art because I’ve gotten so many questions about it already. If you follow along on Instagram stories, you probably saw the whole process of me putting these together. Honestly, it ended up being such a fun and surprisingly inexpensive way to create a gallery wall that still feels really custom and collected.

https://preview.redd.it/id6dxb4odl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=b8e1cd2efdbc482b78bd20a8a1d7842775fb464a

Since I’ve been getting so many great questions about it, I’m planning to put together a separate post later this week all about the art — including how I planned, composed, and installed the grid gallery wall.

https://preview.redd.it/l1mhkrjqdl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=c538b6e3cb0819a22d58109d1bb3a90b56343bf4

Lastly, I have to talk about the window treatments because they ended up making such a huge impact in here. You guys already know this house practically begs for Roman shades thanks to the awkward window shapes and placement throughout the rooms.

For the bedroom, I wanted something neutral, timeless, and still a little graphic. It’s honestly amazing what an inset contrast border can do for a window treatment. If you’re trying to elevate basic shades on a budget, I can’t recommend this detail enough — it instantly makes them look far more custom and expensive than they actually are.

It’s those small stylistic details that really bring a space to life in the end.

https://preview.redd.it/jz08b6ttdl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=238654557e10d084aa5f44255b7bf033699ae7c9

https://preview.redd.it/nyu2i8gudl0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=fc69ae8c30fa09b446db1b74357758c224dfab59

If you noticed the lack of plants in this room — which is very unlike me — you’re definitely not imagining things. Since this is a pretty small master bedroom, there really isn’t much extra space to work with. We use every inch of the walking path, and the last thing I wanted was to clutter it up or make the room feel cramped.

That said, I do occasionally rotate this hoya into the bedroom whenever it needs a little break from the intense light in the living room.

And would you believe this plant is actually over 30 years old? Seriously. My sister gave me a cutting from it, and all of my siblings have one too. It originally belonged to her grandmother, which makes it feel even more special to me. Mine is probably the smallest of the bunch, but I love it anyway. Hoyas are incredibly resilient and beautiful, and this one has so much meaning attached to it. You can literally watch it slowly reach and twist toward the light like some kind of Avatar-level plant magic.

How to Recreate This Master Bedroom Look

https://preview.redd.it/2cxjrxl9xd0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=bedf72e995bbe0a5a8a63a6637bfe4e3404d319a

As promised, I’m sharing all the sources, details, and final thoughts from our master bedroom makeover. Click through for the full resource list, what I loved, what I’d skip, and the pieces that were absolutely worth it.

https://preview.redd.it/vxucgn6dxd0h1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=2693af1e5435638a79a79bb744acc2034d82e4a4

01: Roman shades // 02: Ceiling fan // 03: Leather upholstered bed // 04: Wall sconces // 05: Throw pillow // 06: Campaign nightstand // 07: Vintage runner // 08: Sheepskin // 09: Vintage oil painting // 10: Frames // 11: Linen spray // 12: Live hoya plant // 13: Dimpled planter // 14: Accordion side table // 15: Brass door hardware // 16: Washed linen duvet // 17: Sherwin-Williams Gray Screen (trim color) // 18: Sherwin-Williams Snowbound (wall color)

The Roman shades in our bedroom are custom-made (I shared more details in another post), but #1 is a really close match for a fraction of the price if you have standard-size windows. Same story with the bed — I custom designed our leather bed, but Pottery Barn now carries a version (#3) that gives a very similar look for much less.

The nightstands are vintage originals, but if you’re not in the mood for a furniture hunt or restoration project, #6 is almost identical in both color and style.

I also linked the plant and planter details (#12 & #13). This hoya is basically part of the family at this point — it survived our move and several rough phases, and somehow still thrives. Truly one of the easiest plants to keep alive. They also grow surprisingly fast, and it’s fun watching them slowly reach toward the light over time.

https://preview.redd.it/bdx9heugxd0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=1b710896304fc56a5a34743f057967160e737cab

https://preview.redd.it/sj2zqaehxd0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=ffc3f9db5c6e6f4f330354270aeec29ed91ad699

The runner is one of those pieces that completely makes the room. Unfortunately, it’s vintage and truly one-of-a-kind, so there’s no exact source for it. I found it through Woven in Vintage — one of my favorite Etsy shops for unique textiles and rugs. I linked the closest match I could find above (#7), and it gives a really similar feel in the space.

https://preview.redd.it/u51ful6kxd0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=5648e870f1f9ddfde6269d48f2a5279cbfdf509f

The bedside sconces (#4) ended up exceeding my expectations. We have a dimmable pair in the guest room that I still love, but these feel much more functional and dynamic. They swivel and adjust in pretty much every direction, which makes them perfect for reading or winding down at night. I also love how minimal and timeless they look — especially at this price point.

https://preview.redd.it/ptv73n9nxd0h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=4cde808d1e4c8b7e3db331b052291c3d44401101

You really can’t beat the price of the washed linen duvet (#16), but I was honestly disappointed that it didn’t come with duvet ties — one of my biggest bedding pet peeves. Still, for $99 including king-size shams, I decided it was worth keeping and just sewed in my own ties. A reader also recommended some handy duvet clips, which are a great no-sew option.

I’ve mentioned linen spray (#11) on the blog before, but I’m fully obsessed. I rotate between a few favorites, and it’s such an easy little luxury that keeps the bedding smelling fresh all the time. I usually give the duvet a quick spritz each morning when I make the bed.

I think that covers everything worth linking and sharing! If you have questions about anything else in the room, leave a comment and I’ll happily answer. The grid gallery wall post is coming on Thursday, so definitely check back for that. For a smaller master bedroom, this space turned out to feel really cozy, layered, and complete — I truly love how it came together.

Seasonal Cozy Bedding Refresh

https://preview.redd.it/83daq67wu60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=1cd387e0bec117b90e90c897f261cc37055e7a33

It’s starting to get noticeably colder here in Utah, and with winter (hopefully snowy) and the holidays around the corner, I’ve been slowly shifting things around at home to match the season.

One of the biggest changes has been swapping out the bedding for something more fall/winter appropriate. I ended up redoing the bedroom setup, so I thought I’d shoot it again and share how it looks right now.

It’s definitely leaning more cozy and moody darker tones, a bit more color, but still in that muted, desaturated range.

Click through for the updated bedroom tour + resource list.

https://preview.redd.it/63r68j01v60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=4b96f3601f067891568b2db363392803dca29edb

Step into the master and take a look. Our bedroom usually looks like this in spring and summer, but I love switching things up with the seasons—for both comfort and style.

https://preview.redd.it/qympu0c4v60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=1c029408cc51e7f10a101a3eb3d2564e8d64bb36

https://preview.redd.it/efic28u4v60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=0cb9d26be523861a9d67670028d70bed73100631

I like layering in a coverlet or matelassé for that extra bit of warmth and texture. Along with switching to heavier bedding, I also wanted to darken the overall feel of the room a bit.

We already had some navy in the space from the nightstands (they weren’t always that color, though), so leaning into dark blue bedding felt like a natural choice.

https://preview.redd.it/lf3fo957v60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=470f5301b962b6e01d09184397ddad8d9b69c41d

On top of the new basic bedding, I’ll admit I’ve basically turned into a throw blanket collector. I added a plaid throw at the foot of the bed that fits the room’s palette perfectly.

Throws are just genuinely useful—you can curl up with one to read, watch TV, or sneak in a nap. And they’re a lifesaver when you have guests over and suddenly realize you’re short on extra blankets.

https://preview.redd.it/dtajn57av60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=a5127efc5d8f41fe89ee3533b7df44f7162ad37f

I also wanted to touch on a few things we’ve been loving (and a few we’re not totally sold on) in the master bedroom so far.

At the very top of the “loves” list is the grid gallery wall with the vintage ski art—I’m still very into it. Living in Utah and being avid skiers, those vintage prints feel especially fitting and fun in our home.

If you’re thinking about doing your own grid gallery wall, I’ve put together a post with art ideas, tips, and even exact layouts you can replicate.

https://preview.redd.it/jelct4bdv60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=d20ec48e8cf88063c3acf5cccf2074b0c1c0f498

https://preview.redd.it/10tw609ev60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=ab9aef30b95a0f8398b04b2f7fc52651dbd18ad5

Beyond the artwork, one of our absolute favorite features from day one has been the sconces. We barely ever use the overhead ceiling fan light anymore.

The room gets great natural light during the day, and in the evenings we rely entirely on the sconces. I love that they’re adjustable and each side can be controlled independently.

I tend to read while Emmett drifts off to sleep, and they give just the right amount of light—enough to see clearly without disturbing him.

https://preview.redd.it/zs21s1ygv60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=3fc9ac0be5a028e8ded9ee6c505fee2b96f31b19

Since the reveal, we’ve added a little gadget to the bedroom too. If you remember the Aera we have in the living room, we ended up getting another one for here.

It tucks away nicely behind my nightstand, but the scent it puts out completely transforms the room. It honestly makes the space feel so good and puts me in the best mood as I’m winding down at night.

https://preview.redd.it/regbii5kv60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=68b0506dc55ee0283112c36efda65e003e47619e

If you’re wondering what’s on the “dislike” list… there are definitely a few things in the bedroom we’re not loving as much as we thought we would.

Top of that list right now is the window treatments. I’ve got to admit, I’m not thrilled with how functional they turned out—and honestly, I’m the one to blame for that one.

https://preview.redd.it/gbiztnunv60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=c950dd3a1460ab30cc500aeef38a2540310f4b6d

They do look beautiful and they give us privacy, but I really should’ve gone with blackout shades and just spent the extra money upfront.

Normally privacy shades would’ve been enough, but our neighbors have these super bright lights they keep on 24/7 (so annoying), and it definitely filters right through the Roman shades.

I’m the kind of person who needs a room completely dark to sleep, so that’s easily my biggest regret in this space.

https://preview.redd.it/q2qh6h0rv60h1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=40d578411bbae18eb1504ff62c84b2c76352c937

Curious what your favorites are in the space? I honestly have a hard time narrowing down my “best” finds or most-loved pieces.

The bed is probably the one thing I know we’re not parting with anytime soon—we’ve had it for years and still love it. I custom designed it originally, but I linked a similar option in the roundup.

Our bedroom might be on the smaller side, but it feels really cozy—especially after the bedding swap. It’s honestly become one of my favorite places to spend time in the house.

I’d really love to hear your thoughts in the comments—do you prefer the spring/summer version of our bedroom, or this fall/winter setup?

Do you switch out your bedding with the seasons too, or stick with the same look year-round?

Any questions or thoughts? I’m all ears!
